Gary Lane's latest column at the chesscafe site features what he describes as the Aussie attack. This is a line that goes 1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 e6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Bg5 and was dreamt up by the Australian team at the 2002 Olympiad. The stem game continued 4. .. Nf6 which transposes to a position known from the Torre or Tromp. An early game was between Marshall and Nimzowitsch in 1928 which had started 1. d4 e6 2. Nf3 Nf6 3. Bg5 c5 4. e4 cxd4 .

If White plays e5, Black will respond with h6 and the question of where the Bishop retreats has been investigated in numerous Torre and Tromp games.

I suppose it's a good line for transpositional trickery if White is familiar with positions arising from the Torre or Tromp. In the Sicilian move order, Nf6 isn't forced. The plausible Queen moves to a5, b6 and c7 have all been tried as well as Be7 and f6.
