There was some material in.Mastering the Endgame Vol. 2, which included a referral to that chapter of the endgame book.

Right, I've probably seen bits of it in both books then.

If I had actually studied all the chess books I have bought and just randomly browsed, maybe I would have been a Super GM by now!  Grin

Thank you for all the references. I will check them for sure.

I'm curious about the book "Reloaded Weapons in the Benoni Structures."  Still listed as coming in April 2017.

I wrote to them today and they've told me that the book will be out at the end of July. Now I'm going to ask what's going to be included in the book - is it a rep book for Modern Benoni or something else.

By the way, the old-school Averbakh version with ...Bg4/h3/...Bxf3 has come up in Chess Publishing.

I recall browsing some strategic discussion of the Symmetric Benoni positions that typically arise from the Averbakh KID in a book years ago. Might have been Shereshevsky and Slutsky: Mastering the Endgame (Vol. 1 or 2)? Does that ring a bell for anyone?

Shereshevsky discusses this structure over the course of three examples at the end of the chapter on The Two Bishops in the book Endgame Strategy. Perhaps that's what you're thinking of. Though it's quite possible that he also covers the same ground in the work you mention, of course.

I recalled that much of the .pdf sample of the Rios book is from the Symmetric Benoni (which I think an author of decades ago, Steffen Zeuthen, called Russian Benoni) chapter.

Yes, that's how I decided to buy Chess Structures; I read the free sample first and wanted more.

You could look at Chess Structures by Rios.

He has instructive chapters on two of the structures that are most relevant to this "Late Benoni": The Symmetric Benoni with exd5 exd5 (which he calls one of his favorite structures) and the Czech Benoni structure (which he calls just "KID Type II" for some reason). 19 and 16 pages respectively in those chapters.

I've only had the book for a couple of days, but it looks excellent so far. There may be more relevant stuff as well. The Asymmetric Benoni (i.e. Modern Benoni) structure is also covered, and can obviously arise from a Late Benoni if White is happy with that.

Comas Fabrego in True Lies in Chess mentions the "Late Benoni" briefly as an answer to a tricky White move order in the King's Indian: 5.Nf3 0-0 6.Be2 Na6 7.Nd2!? c5! 8.d5 e6. But there isn't really any further coverage of it.

I believe Yermolinsky had something on it in The Road to Chess Improvement, criticizing an earlier Roman Dzindzichashvili recommendation, likely from one of his many videos.

Yeah, but the point is to delay taking on d5 until you prepare ...b5
Any other sources of delayed/late Benoni you know of?

Not really. 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 c5 3.d5 is also a Benoni (just not a Modern one) and d6 4.Nc3 g6 5.e4 Bg7 6.Bg5 O-O 7.Be2 e6 8.Qd2 exd5 still leaves White the choice between 9.cxd5 and 9.exd5.

The main entry to KID ...c5 d5 ed ed positions without White fianchetto (...ed cd is a Benoni, and it is White who decides KID vs. Benoni here)  occurs through White's Averbach variation. Books that cover the Averbach will cover it, e.g Kornev does so from White's point of view in A Practical White Rep. Vol 2. Also, the old  Ponzetto Mastering the KID has a whole chapter on that pawn structure. The fact that White scores 51% and not 54% won't help you if you don't know how to play it.

There is a chess database about Late/Delayed Benoni by one of its specialists Grandmaster Boris Chatalbashev:
https://www.modern-chess.com/en/chess-databases/database=6

For me it was a good intro to those lines and definitely worth the money spent.

Do you know other sources to look at of this Benoni/KID hybrid?

I m a acc dragon player.

Then chesslife is not too hard for you. You can keep your options open for a while. Depending on White's system you can play a delayed Volga Gambit (b7-b5), a Closed Benoni (e7-e5), a Modern Benoni (e7-e6) or something independent (like Nb8-a6-c7). In case of ...e5 and ...e5 you also have to consider White's reply dxe6, but it's usually not too dangerous. In case of the Modern Benoni White also has the extra option of x...exd5 y.exd5.
Eg 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 g6 3.Nc3 Bg7 4.e4 d6 5.Nf3 O-O 6.Be2 c5 7.d5 e6 (b5 and e5 don't have good reputations) 8.O-O (8.dxe6 scores badly) exd5 9.cxd5 (9.exd5 scores 51%) is one of the main lines of the Modern Benoni.
The main advantage compared to the MB is avoiding the Taimanov or Flick Knife with f4 and Bb5+.

I m a acc dragon player transpositions won't be a problem for me. I'm just trying to understand what's going on between benoni , king indian c5 and sicilian.

It you mean 6.. c5 in the classical KID then I suspect that not that many books will cover it as its falling between two openings.

Everyman's starting out: benoni systems mentions some of them but you should be able to get the information off the database.

The main 'worries' would be white recapturing with his e pawn, which is a different sort of game and maybe accelerated dragon transpositions.

benoni /king indian?

Hello,

I have seen that marian petrov wrote Grandmaster Repertoire 12 - The Modern Benoni.
When i looked into my database , i have noticed that he enters the benoni with king indian , delaying e6. Infortunately he doesn't discuss about that in his new book.
Where can i find informations about that specific moves order? In a king indian book ?

thanks
