They don't sell CBlight Premium any more. You'll get CB10 for ~30€ at Ebay. But you have to run XP for that. Maybe it runs under Wine.

I seem to recall that the premium version of CBlight allows users to install their own engines.  Given you already own DB software, you might save 50 euro.

Thank you. That, however, I am too lazy to do very often while watching a video, to speak truly. Why I am willing to think a long time over a position while reading a book and not to cut and paste while watching a video is beyond me, but it is so. Therefore I guess I will be getting CB12. I should have it anyway, though my own more important databases are in CA or Bookup.

Copy FEN / Copy position

Then paste it in a separate program/window.
There are dozens of free chess programs with FEN support and "play vs engine" capability.

What about in CB 12, gentlemen? If I buy it will I get the capability to pause a .cbm video and engine-check the video's positions?

Yes.  When I get a DVD, I save it to my hard drive and watch it in CB12.  You can have Houdini running in the background or you can pause the video presentation and then fire up Houdini.  Very, very simple -- you just hit "add kibitzer" on the ribbon.

Thanks. I have Convekta Chess Assistant with full 6-piece Nalimov tablebases installed (and I configured the tablebases as a tree!). That is indeed good for going over games with an engine running. But can CA play a chessbase .cbm video?!

I guess if you want to work with a DVD, the first important point is to know if there is a file with notes, because without that, I think only the "Set up position" wich is not practical. If the DVD have notes, then I guess you can first pick the files by sending them to output textfile (pgn) and open them on your Houdini Fritz interface to make your own notes and check the engine. Houdini with Fritz interface is better for play. I prefer to use CA with Houdini 3 with the bonus of Nalimov tablebases. There can be other ways but I am not an expert in all the possibilities.

Hi. I just got the latest Fritz (actually Houdini 3 with the Fritz interface) and want to know how to analyze/play out/ annotate a position from a Fritz trainer DVD (.cbm), say a Muller endgame DVD,  using the engine. Suppose I'm looking at a position from the DVD, thinking "why doesn't Bxb3 work here?" and I want to pause the DVD and immediately have the engine show me the problem with that move, with as little fuss as possible. How can I do that?
