I think you can register to ICCF through your national chess correspondence federation. As long as I know, it's not necessary to play a whole tournament on ICCF. You can play an unrated friendly game there and still be an ICCF member.
As for the ICCF registration through your national federation, I don't think you'll have to pay too much, though I suppose your federation will ask for a payment tax every year in order to maintain your membership.  Embarrassed

How to get access to ICCF archive?

Normally I download twice per year the games from ICCF. However today I noticed that the archive disappeared. After some searching I found the following link: http://www.iccf-webchess.com/Message.aspx?message=479. The decision was made end of last year to only give access to the archives to registered players. Now that is a real disappointment. I remember games were always public on iccf and now suddenly not anymore. Why?
Well in fact I have some ideas of why as I see lately a trend of more and more restriction on published games. I even wrote last year an article about it , see: http://schaken-brabo.blogspot.be/2012/11/partijpublicaties.html

Now of course I want to have a solution for my problem. Do you have an idea?
I have some but none I really like:
- Play a tournament on iccf server so I become a registered player
- Ask a friend whom is a registered user to share the downloads. I didn't notice on the iccf website that this was forbidden.
- Another option is to pay for a subscription on http://openingmaster.com/ However again I have doubts if this is ok as I have no idea if this site has a commercial agreement with iccf to use their restricted archive. At least I couldn't find anything about such agreement.

Any feedback would be more than welcome as I use the correspondence games often to prepare and analyse in depth openings.
