Bg4 with the chance of playing a Queens Gambit with reversed colours if White continues passively.

Once you are locked in with .. d5 and .. c5, many positions come out very similar and excellent play is needed to get anywhere with black.

Speaking of minority attack (as katar did), an early way to aim for some imbalance is this sort of thing:  1. d4 Nf6 2. Nf3 d5 3. e3 c5 4. c3 cd 5. ed Nc6.  White has an apparently suboptimal version of the Exchange Caro, and it's a kind of position in which random exchanges should tend to favor Black.  (The late theoretician Ludek Pachman wrote of this possibility having been oddly neglected in books.)

If White doesn't want to fight, there's not much Black can do about it.  The best way to deal with it is to have patience.  Don't try for fireworks in the opening.  Just play solid chess and wait for White to make a mistake.  Sometimes the mistake won't come until the endgame.  But it will come, it always does.

Of course what to play against 2.Nf3 depends on what transpositions you're willing to allow, but if you were willing to play a Benoni, I'd recommend the immediate 2...c5.  You'll find out your opponent's intentions right away, and have the flexibility to later fianchetto the King's Bishop if you'd like, not having play ...e7-e6 yet.

It also avoids some of the more boring London/Colle lines.  For instance if 3.c3, Black can try moves like 3...Qc7, 3...Qa5, 3...g6, etc, and decide on how to arrange the central pawns later, depending on what White does.  You might play ...d7-d5 with a reversed Closed Catalan, or play it more like a reversed Reti system. 

Obviously you have to be prepared for various Benoni lines after 2...c5 3.d5--unless you want to just play 3...b5 in that position.  In that case you cut down on the amount of Benoni stuff that you need to know, i.e. no main lines after 3...e6 4.c4.

"Fireworks" is not the apt word to use from this move order.  IMO the best you can do is aim for a somewhat imbalanced hedgehog type of position by playing the d-pawn to d6 instead of d5.

You will take c5xd4 at some point.  Then your pawn structure will be something like a6, b6, d6, e6, f7, g7, h7.  You will probably play for either (1) e6-e5 (prepare by, e.g., Re8, Bf8, Qc7) or (2) b6-b5-b4 with sort of a minority attack.

The big difference from a usual hedgehog is the e-file is open instead of the d-file.  As far as i understand it, this is an improvement for Black b/c the e-pawn is defended by f7-pawn, but the d-pawn is not defended by another pawn.  So White would prefer to have an open d-file rather than an open e-file.

The above is basically all I know when I am aiming for a Nimzo and I face a Colle/London system type thing.  "ChessExplained" at youtube did a repertoire video covering this system for Black. 

Definitely not "fireworks" but at least Black has ideas to play for in the resulting positions.  GL.

To a fair extent the best advice might be to forget doing anything dramatic and focus on getting small advantages with the exchanges/grinding a result out etc. If your opponents falls into the trap of playing purely for a draw then it can work very well. Like that famous Guverich - Short french exchange game.

Early fireworks are just off the menu vs the Colle really. You might keep more life in the game with some of the d6/b6 or g6 set ups.

It is of course, at the best of times, quite hard to beat a solid player playing sensibly but a bit unambitiously with the white pieces.

So I had to play a last round game where I had to win and my opponent (white) only needed a draw. He then played the Colle and proceeded to exchange away until the game came to a dead draw. My line against the Colle is one which establishes equality but little else. What should I do to up the ante and introduce some fireworks in the initial part of the game?
