We MUST include GM Victor Mikhalevsky, the author or the GM in charge of the 1.e4  e5  portion of Chesspublishing.com

He is an expert on the black side of 1.e4 e5

I think the best players to follow are Aronian and Adams. They have played 1.e5 almost exclusively thru their careers

A sample list of active players who play the Ruy Lopez as their primary defense against 1.e4:

Carlsen - Breyer and Berlin
Adams - mainly Marshall Attack but also Chigorin, Zaitsev and Breyer
Aronian - Marshall and Berlin
Bacrot - nowadays Marshall Attack, used to play Zaitsev
Onischuk - Marshall, Berlin, Möller and Karpov (9...Nd7)
Mamedyarov - Breyer sometimes Chigorin
Karjakin - mainly Berlin but also others like Chigorin and Zaitsev
Gustafsson - Marshall
Amin - a young 2650 who plays Breyer
Caruana - mainly the Shirov line with 5...b5 6.Bb3 Bc5

One (deceased) player I thought of is Geller, but he also played a lot of Sicilians.  On a criterion of defending the Ruy almost exclusively over all games, Kramnik "fails" even more badly than Efim Petrovich.

Onischuk has consistently been in the top 100 and 1... e5 all his life.

Don't ignore Karpov, he's played 1...e5 literally hundreds of times at the highest levels of chess.  He's had an incredibly long career and for much of it, he's played 1...e5 almost exclusively.

In my database he's played 1...e5 well over 100 times more than 1...c6.

Aronian plays almost exclusively 1...e5. Other modern players are Bacrot and Gustafsson.

I once read a comment on an "Indian school" of these Closed Ruy Lopez lines, and sure enough there are loads of games by Sasikiran and Harikrishna in the databases.

There are many games by top players like Carlsen, Karjakin, Mamedyarov and Morozevich too, but on that level you just can't expect anyone to stick with just one defence to 1.e4 these days. Though Carlsen has at times looked like an almost exclusive 1.e4 e5 player (with both colours!) in top tournaments.

Paul Keres played 1...e5 almost exclusively. And he played different Chigorin variations I believe, including his own 11...Nd7 line.

Really?  There are so many!  From the top of my head Karpov, Adams, Smyslov, Romanishin, Beliavsky, and Gligoric.

Oh, do you mean just contemporary players?  I'm not sure who all the specialists are, but certainly Adams.

Not only contemporary players.  Any specialist who has played almost ALL his games with 1...e5. Karpov has played a lot of Caro-Kanns for example so he is not the man I think of first.  Adams,Gligorich,Belyavsky is now on my list.

Hello dear chess lovers. I am looking for a role player/specialist on 1...e5. I know many players play 1...e5 .....in lets say top 100 but is there any real specialist who has played 1...e5 almost exclusively. Many players are jumping around these days to surprise oponents and by doing so also avoids being outprepared.

Is there any 1...e5 player who has played many instructive 1...e5 and Ruy lopez games which you can learn much from. Any suggestions ?

I am interested in ,Chigorin,Breyer,Zaitsev system mostly.
