The forward and back buttons are easy to hit.
That interface is designed to PLAY chess, as opposed to read analysis and follow along on a board. I don't see where 6 lines of text and variations would go.
I sketched out a few ideas, here's one:
http://www.jesseo.com/chess/pgn4web/test1.htm Only works on mobile devices (or in firefox/chrome you can click F12 for developer mode and then find the icon for 'responsive design mode').
You can move forward or backwards, one ply at a time, and can click on moves when they appear in text.
Things I plan to change:
1. The variations doesn't appear on their own lines, and aren't indented, as is done in most chess GUI's.
2. game text & analysis could be in a box which the user can scroll through, and which autoscrolls as the moves are played.
3. (optional) To get more space, I considered using the RIGHT side of the chessboard as the 'move forward' button and the LEFT side would be the 'move backwards' button.
Off to the store to get an old used android phone -- to replace yesterday's old used android phone which isn't starting today!?
