Thanks a million, Bondefanger! I think that I will give this site a shot first. The issues of the chess magazine look very interesting in general. However, being able to post questions to the experts here seems even more interesting.

I would say so, yes.

If you go to the chessbase shop and browse through the descriptions of all the old issues of chessbase magazine, you can see a description of the opening surveys therein. If you find enough of those that interest you, then perhaps it is a good idea to buy the opening encyclopaedia instead of the back-issues of chessbase magazine. I did that.

But I'm also a member of this site, and I  must say that I got more value for money here.

Nope, I'm a diamond member of chess.com. Is it better value to be a subscriber to this site than getting the encyclopedia?

Is it worth buying the above from chessbase? I want to change from 1. d4 to 1. e4 and look forward to some books from Quality Chess later on this summer but would like to study some 1. e4 stuff already now. My ELO is a little above 2050. Thanks for any relevant input  Smiley
