Another Queen's Indian vs. Reti that can occur is 1Nf3 Nf3 2g3 b6 3Bg2 Bb7. The game can transpose to a regular queen's indian if white plays d4 at some point. However, both players have given up options. Black has played Bb7 instead of Ba6. White can no longer play the Petrosian system, early Nc3 or e3 systems. White can play d3 instead of d4, and I don't know what to make of this.

2...b5!? is similar. It is sometimes called the Spassky variation and has a good reputation. White can shift the focus to the b pawn with an early Na3.

In Larry Kaufman's book, The Kaufman Repertoire for Black and White, one response to 1.Nf3 that he recommends is he gives 1.Nf3 Nf6 2.c4 b6 with the idea of playing the Queen's Indian but avoiding the mainline Queen's Indian with by playing 3.d4 Bb7 4.g3 g6 instead of 4...e6. He said this was also recommended in a yearbook article by GM Tiviakov. What do you think about this line? Is it sound for black?
