He diverges from the cited game with 11. Bg4 (Haria - Qiu, 4NCL 2014), with several lines of lightly annotated analysis leading to a small advantage, and also gives 11. a4 OOO 12. a5 as a possible alternative without further comment.

I haven't had time to look at the book properly yet, so I can't give an overall assessment. However Dreev is one of the strongest players writing opening books, and if he says one line is OK for Black and another isn't, that will be good enough for me.

I wonder what Dreew gives for the line 3. e5 Bf5 4. Nf3 e6 5. Be2 Nd7 6. 0-0 h6 7. Nbd2 Ne7. This is a very popular line from what I see lately, especially with idea ...g5 and ...0-0-0, like this very recent game:

Has anyone yet the book?

Once I asked Dreev on the site chess-news about the best continuation for black in the advanced variation. He answered that if black don't play c5 on some moment, white has a stable +=. So c5 must to be played on 5 or 6 move.

Hopefully he will tell us Black's best way for equality in the Advance. I only play the Black side of the Caro-Kann and I will also buy this book just to see what he has to show.

I still find it rare that Dreew writes this book for White repertoire. Maybe it is like Negi, he plays the Sicilian Najdorf regularly, but wrote a book against the Najdorf recently? Smiley

I must nonetheless buy this book because I play the Caro-Kann as Black and the Advance seems to be the new main line, instead of all of the Classical lines.

Here is the exact excerpt file:

Content out now, looks good.
But why does Dreev deals shortly with 4.c4, 4.h4 and
4.Nbd2 ? Instruction for 4.Nf3 or repertoire options!?

I find this strange as well. I'd love a repretoire from the Black side, something to complement his excellent Semi-Slav books. Dreev would be the perfect candidate for such a book.

I just noticed this book is scheduled for release by the publisher Chess Stars for Jan 2015. I find it a bit strange that a devoted Caro-Kann player would do this. I wonder why he didn't want to write a repertoire from the Black side. I plan to still buy the book to see what he has to say.
