One possible objection to playing an early Nc3 combined with g3 is that black might play ...c5 going for a fianchetto modern Benoni. I think the play in that variation is very dynamic and satisfactory for black. If, as black, I could force a transposition to the fianchetto MBO, I would do so every time.

Normally white delays Nc3 and if black plays ...c5, he might run into something like this:

1. d4 Nf6 2. c4 g6 3. Nf3 Bg7 4. g3 O-O 5. Bg2 c5 6. d5 d6 7. O-O e6?! 8. dxe6!? Bxe6 9. Ng5!? Bxc4 10. Bxb7 Nbd7 11. Na3!? and white is much better. Of course 11Na3 would not be possible if the knight were already on c3.

I'm not suggesting that white avoid an early Nc3 and g3. But if you play that way, consider an early c5 by black.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but this comes up when searching for information about this. It looks like the c6 setup can be fully avoided using this move order:
1.c4 Nf6 2.Nc3 g6 3.g3 Bg7 4.Bg2 O-O 5.d4
If c6 is inserted at any point here, white would respond with e4.

Thank you, I think that I shall look after the first one, if I play g3 against any of those defences, I really wish to avoid any combination where Black can Fianchetto and play ...d5 in one move, perhaps this English moveorder work better when it is known that the opponent does not play 1...c5 against English.

Regarding 3...c6 lines: I don't have anything here, other than an English move order, but be aware that black can still set up a ...c6 Grunfeld formation.

Regarding the 4...Nxd5 line:

1.Nf3 Nf6 2.c4 g6 3.Nc3 d5 4.cxd5 Nxd5 5.g3 Bg7 6.Bg2 Nc6 7.0-0 0-0 8.d4 is a move order I've used before that sidesteps the problems you mention but does require that you are happy if black plays 6...c5 (not everyone else).

Another more radical option in 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 g6 3.g3 Bg7 4.Bg2 d5 5.cxd5 Nxd5 and then the old main line 6.e4 (covered in the recent Opening Repertoire: Fianchetto System by Demos, a repertoire for white from 3.g3). Alas, he does not cover the critical line from Delchev and Agrest's Safest Grunfeld, but I think they end their analysis prematurely.

Third: 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 g6 3.g3 Bg7 4.Bg2 d5 5.cxd5 Nxd5 6.Nf3 Nc6 7.Nc3 Nb6 8.0-0!? offering the pawn is valid and as it was skipped from the book Wojo's Weapon's III the coverage was supplied here in the forum at the post:

in theory black can still play d5 after 3.Nc3 Bg7 (if you continue with 4.Nf3 or 4.g3), but in practice playing 3.Nc3 can be a good idea, although you don't evade KID players that switch to a Grünfeld against the fianchetto

Well, I suppose it depends, primarily on just how critical it is for you to avoid main line Grunfeld positions.  If you are set on that, you are probably in trouble in terms of repertoire choices, as you have noted.  However, there's nothing wrong with playing 3 Nc3 in theory in the Fianchetto KID; people just generally play it last to discourage... the Grunfeld.

And then you can play the most critical lines of both openings, if you so choose.

Avoid Fianchetto Grünfeld, Play Fianchetto KID

I am unsure how to put this topic in a correct place, because it involves a few openings.

For Whiterepertoire: I used to play Fianchetto Grünfeld as White until I noticed that after the many novelties in the 2010 Khanty-Mansisyk Olympiad that Black had for the 4...Nxd5 variation with 9. e3 Te8 10. Te1 a5, I feel that Black is equal in this variation, and completely equal in the Symmetrical line with 3...c6 and cxd5/cxd5 line. But I like play the Fianchetto versus King's Indian Defence. The problem is obvious that if I want to play Fianchetto King's Indian how to avoid allowing Black option of Fianchetto Grünfeld? I was thinking of using some sort of English move order, but unsure if I might end up tricking myself instead if opponent decides to avoid Fianchetto King's Indian setups. I thought til exemple, 1. c4 Nf6 2. Nc3 g6 3. Nc3 d6 4. g3 then that is Fianchetto KID. But it might not be so easy, obviously 1...c5 or 2...c5 instead of anti-Grünfeld.

So a summary is that I play now 1. d4 Nf6 2. c4 g6 3. f3 and the positions I like, but I also need an alternative. I like the Sämisch for King's Indian and the 3. f3 anti-Grünfeld, but I very much like the Fianchetto King's Indian to play as White. I just feel that the Fianchetto Grünfeld for Black with both 3...c6 (Symmetrical) and with ...Nxd5 is just equal--I play this with Black and have not lost--on the other side, when I played it with White I never won, and lost most of my games.
Mange tak.
