Like Fllg said, the biggest knock on Aveskulov's book is that it doesn't cover the 12.a4 King-Walk, but it has the massive advantage of presenting a complete repertoire against 1.d4. I don't love his choice of the Blumenfeld, but that just comes down to personal taste. I also much prefer the format of his book - the Kasparov book was messier and hard to follow for me.

That said, if I recall, the Kasparov book has a lot of complete games, and if you're just starting out in the Benko, it might be worth buying that book just for the insight of a GM who's specialized in this line for eons.

You might want to also consider the Move by Move book. I liked it quite a bit - Junior Tay has a lot of experience in the Benko, and it appears as though he really did his research.

Aveskulovīs book has been discussed here: http://www.chesspub.com/cgi-bin/chess/YaBB.pl?num=1326764933

I think itīs quite good but it doesnīt cover 12.a4 in the mainline which only came up at the time when the book was printed.

The author has corrected this in the kindle version of the book, though as far as I know his suggestions to avoid the problems after 12.a4 havenīt seen much testing.

Aveskulov also covers the Blumenfeld via the move order 1.d4 Nf6 2.Nf3 c5 3.d5 e6 4.c4 b5 (against 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 c5 3.d5 b5 4.Nf3 he also gives 4...Bb7)

I havenīt seen Sergej Kasparovīs work and so canīt comment on that.

Any thoughts on these two books on the Benko?
