Don't forget that Adams is one of the very few traditional e4 players which didn't expand his white repertoire.
See his explanation why he keeps on playing 1.e4 contrary to his colleagues: https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=89&v=U-_VpSBIAhs

The first games in the database from Michael Adams are dated 1984! More than 1000 1.e4 games are stored of Michael in the database. That is gigantic. I don't think you will find any better specialists today of 1.e4. No surprise to me that Carlsen hired him in his team for the last worldchampionship.

Personally I don't think you can compare Nunns analysis dated 30 years ago with the knowledge/ experience of Adams now.

I wonder why Adams eschewed meeting ...h6 with h4 today.  In a similar position, Nunn played it and gave it "!", though he wrote that apparently some of the players who saw it were inclined to laugh at it.

Perhaps down to 23 years of experience of players in similar positions between 1982 and 2005. Nunn also had a style that was far more direct than Adams.

Adams always has been a bit inspirationally calm in how he plays the Open Sicillian Smiley

Let me just throw out an offhand question.  I wonder why Adams eschewed meeting ...h6 with h4 today.  In a similar position, Nunn played it and gave it "!", though he wrote that apparently some of the players who saw it were inclined to laugh at it.
