While not strictly about rook endgames, Jeremy Silman's Complete endgame course is pretty thorough about rook endings.

Recently I came across

Your Shortcut to Rook & Pawn vs. Rook Endgames (Master Chess Book 5) by Lars Bo Hansen (Kindle)

Basic theory, plus fairly recent examples, and well explained.

Only skimmed it so far, but looks very good!

Pratical Rook endings by Edmar Mednis is the book to get.
it's a short book only 70 pages long but it teaches you how to play rook endings better than any other book.
The one by Minev already reccomended in the thread is also good but this one is better.

I picked this Minev book up for £5 or something in one of the sale categories on the London Chess Centre online store. It was there for years and maybe still is.

It's very good on tactical and strategic themes, but light on the technical theory (except for the basic R+p vs R positions).

'A Practical Guide to Rook Endgames', by Nikolay Minev, is a superb little book that I'd thoroughly recommend. The author presents all the basic stuff and, most importantly, discusses principles and ideas rather than simply giving you page after page of sometimes baffling variations. It's a slim volume and certainly doesn't cover everything there is to know, but it's a very good place to start.

I played in a recent 7 rounds tournament and got 2nd place and gained rating points but the tournament showed several weaknesses that I need to improve. While I did not lose a single game, I did not win two won rook endgames and a maybee won rook endgame against the winner so I need to improve in that area.

Any idea where to start? I have about 1900 elo.
