To be honest, there is a fine line between discussing texts and giving too much away.
Overall, I have been impressed by his KID and Taimanov vids.
Tricky to judge, but for details, it is probably better to buy.

What does Robin van Kampen recommend in the 6. Be2 Nf6 7. Be3 line?

Because he likes avoiding ...a6, how can he do it here? i.e., 7... Be7 8. f4 and Qd2

That's also my main line, then after 12.Qd2 f6 (I'm not sure how else Black can free himself) 13.exf6 Rxf6 14.g3 a6 15.Bxb4 Nxb4 16.c3 axb5 17.cxb4 Qb6 18.Qf2 Qd6 19.a3 e5 20.Rd1 Qe6 21.Bxb5 exf4 22.Qe2 Qxe2 23.Bxe2 fxg3 24.hxg3 I think White is better in the arising endgame as Black has inferior development and an extra pawn island (plus their king is a bit less active). I don't think inserting 12...Bxc3 first helps much either as White just gets a good version of a standard French structure with Black's bishop stuck in.

I do think 5...a6 6.Be3 Nf6 is a decent Anti-English Attack system though, then 7.f4 is still dangerous but probably not better for White with optimal play from Black.

As for the 6.Be2 a6 7.0-0 b5 line, it's not as bad as I once thought, but I'd definitely prefer to be White after 9.Qd3 or 9.f4.

TN: Which variation do you prefer for white after 7...Bb4 ?

All that I could find was 7...Bb4 8.Ndb5 Qa5 9.e5 Nd5 10.Bd2 Nxc3 11.Bxc3 and now after 0-0 I do not see why white would be better.

White can try 7.f4 in that move order, which in my view favours White slightly.

After 1.  e4 c5 2.  Nf3 e6 3.  d4 cxd4 4.  Nxd4 Nc6 5.  Nc3 Qc7 6.  Be3 black can simply play Nf6.

After 7.Be2 black plays Be7 and we are back in the recommended repertoire and after 7.Qd2 black plays a6 and we are back in the English attack.

I have checked recent top games and see no disadvantage to answering 6.Be3 with Nf6 instead of a6.

1.  e4 c5 2.  Nf3 e6 3.  d4 cxd4 4.  Nxd4 Nc6 5.  Nc3 Qc7 6.  Be2 a6 7.  O-O b5 8.  Nxc6 Qxc6 9.  Bf3 Bb7 10.  Bf4

is something I looked at for Black a long time ago and as I recall, I had 8. dxc6, thinking that was the "book" main line.  Is this no longer the case?

I mostly play 7. ...Nf6 so I don't know the details.

Thanks for the info. I'll check out 7...b5 later.

The main point to remember (at least in my mind) is that

is supposed to be good for White because Black has problems on his dark squares.

I have some sweet memories with this position: http://chess-brabo.blogspot.be/2015/02/happiness.html

I suppose Van Kampen aims to reach 1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 d6 3. d4 cd 4. Nxd4 Nf6 5. Nc3 d6 6. Be2 Nc6 7. 0-0 Be7 8. Be3 0-0 9. f4, where 9...Qc7 is one of the (yes) old book moves?  That line always reminds me most particularly of a game Ciocaltea-Tal, with its unusual deployment of Black's QB.

I've watched some of these videos but there seems to be a gap in the repertoire.

After 6.Be2 Van Kampen recommends 6...Nf6 7.Be3 Be7 with a Schevenigen set-up without committing to ...a6.

Very cool; I play the Taimanov for the most part, and have dabbled in both the Scheveningen with ...a6 and the system with ...Bd7 instead of ...Qc7, omitting ...a6.  I've never played ...Qc7 with the idea of omitting ...a6; that's something I'll definitely look into.

Though I often play the old 5...a6 move order, as I like the anti-English line 5...a6 6.Be3 Nf6 7.Qd2 Bb4 better than the regular English Attack.

I did a search because I plan to play like this for the Taimanow. Amongst other players who do 7...b5, is Witiugow, Lei Ting-Jie, and a bunch of other players. It seems to be very popular. As a Scheveningen player in the past, I never knew that people were so afraid to enter the Scheveningen though.

One old line which stuck in my memory and which I guess is still relevant is 7...b5 8. Nxc6 Qxc6 9. f4 (the aforementioned Spoelman-Van Kampen saw 9. e5; 9. Bf3 can come to the same thing) Ba3.
