I wonder what 12. d5 being "simply +=" would be based on.  Seems to me it has been generally thought of as leading to equality, though perhaps considered "a practical weapon" or the like.

White scores at least well in practice. It seems to me, that it is easier to generate counterplay after 12.Nbd2 cd.

Hello.

Simple question on a simple line:

1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bb5 a6 4. Ba4 Nf6 5. O-O Be7 6. Re1 b5 7. Bb3 O-O 8. h3
d6 9. c3 Na5 10. Bc2 c5 11. d4 Qc7 12. d5

It seems to me that in spanoish Tsigorin  11.-Qc7 12.Nbd2 cd 13. cd Nc6 is quite OK for black.
However tt seems to me that 12.d5 is simply += for white.

Am I right?

To answer this question I assume one would first have to understand exactly what you mean by "simply +=" and also be an expert on the Chigorin variation. I'm 0/2 here.

That being said I have played this as white, always with this 12.d5 move and quite like the positions reached for white.

Have a nice day.

I don't know. There are some lines where Black is happy to lose tempi to provoke d5. For example 12.Nbd2 Rd8 13.d5

I would have thought the flexibility in the center is one of white's weapons in the Ruy, but I'm no expert there.
