Great game by Yi Wei in Wijk aan Zee today with the d3 and Bxc6 line. Very impressive.

I have both, I'm interested in all these defences though.

My only criticism so far is the following line he gives: 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 Nf6 4.d3 Bc5 5.c3 0-0 6.0-0 d6 7.Nbd2 a6 this has been replaced by 7...Ne7 at the top level, Black scores better with it too.

Rest of DVD is excellent as far as I can tell. I bought it mainly for the explanations of the endgame but the anti-berlin's were dealt with well too. It's just the above line I don't like, I think 7...Ne7 is the way to go.

Indeed, well time stands still for no man, and chess books especially. You could well be right about the ...Ne7 line.

btw I wasn't saying anything against the Berlin, although for some reason at amateur level it is hard for it to take off. My comment was more directed at the format (DVD v book) although perhaps that's just me being old-fashioned.

As Lasker once said the most important thing can be to unlearn or forget what you learned in the past. That's why these pesky juniors are a handful, they don't have to worry about any of that..

I would recommend instead Bologan's book on the Marshall & Breyer also covering all sidelines.

See the other thread.

Just came across it: http://shop.chessbase.com/en/products/bologan_the_berlin_wall

About to buy it, hopefully he may mention what variations he plans to cover in his book too.

Edit in: Just noticed it's only available for preorder atm, officially available at the 12th Oct.

Definitely. I'm still hoping for Bologan to make a new Caro-Kann repertoire for Black DVD and/or book.

This is a pic of the contents for his Berlin DVD: http://postimg.org/image/59v11nyll/full/

Little by little we will crush White's position Cool
