Maybe I am, I really need to look at the world championship games sometime. I will have to look at that Short vs Gelfand game also.

Sounds to me as though you may be conflating 6. Be2 e6 (which is a Classical Scheveningen) and 6. Be2 e5.  Kasparov was known for being on the black side of the former.  An idea of 6...e5 is that Black is generally less susceptible to a kingside attack.

But speaking of the 1996 Gelfand being subjected to a kingside attack as Black in the Najdorf version, I was reminded of his game against Short from the Euwe Memorial.

Thanks for the tip Gut Gambit, didn't Anand play the classical variation in some world championship games against Kasparov too?

Also from what I understand the classical variation is still an attacking opening with White trying to play f4 and operate on the kingside? I saw on Shirov's My Best Games in the Sicilian Najdorf his game against Gelfand from Dos Hermanas 1996 where Shirov generated a fantastic attack by sacrificing a rook.

A good place to start could be Karpovs games.  He played  a lot of games in this variation before he gave  up 1.e4 after the loss of WC title to Kasparov. Not all of us plays like Kasparov, so I imagine there would be a lot to learn by studying Karpovs classical games in the open sicilians.

Hello everyone. I'm interested in playing the classical (6.Be2) variation against the Najdorf, yet so far I've only found one book which covers this variation from the White side, Slaying the Sicilian by IM Taylor. Does anyone know if there are more books on this from the White side, or will this be one of those openings that I have to collect books on the Najdorf for Black and see what each says to get a fuller picture of it? Also does anyone here play the Classical Najdorf as White and if so what advice can you share and what are your general impressions of it based on your experience? Feel free to give your impressions and advice of it playing the Black side too even if you don't play it as White.
