I have watch both Chessbase and Chess24 videos - in the shower. I have had a Bluetooth speaker for some time and now I just got Urbanista Boston earphones, IPX5-classed. Works fine, and it means I can use the spare time in the shower for some chess education as well!

Nick Pert made a 2 volume DVD series on the endgames for the GingerGM store. It's called the Killer Endgames, I found it very instructive, Pert is well known in England for his endgame skill.

But this issue is always present when you watch DVDs, so you can question the medium in itself. By the way, pushing a button from time to time is entirely possible when you do the dishes Wink.

Very well then, I am questioning the medium itself. I am a bit skeptical of their value, though I sometimes watch chess DVDs while eating.

I haven't tried it with the dishes myself, I wouldn't want dishwater spilling over on a device from rushing to stop a video (before an answer is revealed, for example). But maybe you have some special trick there?  Smiley

The "other things" are less of an issue if they're auto-pilot things that don't require conscious thought. Like using an exercise bike, sitting on a train/bus, doing the dishes, knitting – what's automatic depends on the individual.

I typically watch DVDs while I do the dishes Wink.

But passive learning is the real problem. I believe some of these Chessbase DVDs, in particular those by Daniel King, have added some "stop the tape and think up your own answer first" feature, which is an improvement. I haven't seen it in action, but if you have to physically press a pause/play button every time, that of course makes it a bit difficult to combine with many other activities.

You're not going to learn anything if you combine watching any of these DVDs with 'other things.' Passive learning, particularly half-hearted passive learning, isn't sufficient for chess knowledge.

Thanks for the advice, but I'm afraid I don't have a choice at the moment. I still hope to catch a thing or two though... And Mueller's DVDs 5, 6 and 7 actually seem like they can be learned passively to some extent... Active learning is always better of course!

Apart from all this, it can just be fun!

I haven't watched any of the engdgame either, but I fully agree on the Power Play series. I like his clear presentation and logical explanations.

Daniel King has a couple of Power Play ChessBase DVDs on endgames. I haven't watched them in particular, but I'm a big fan of other entries in his Power Play series. There are usually preview excerpts available to see if you like his style.

Thanks! What are your opinions on Susan Polgar's and Roman's Labs? Are there any others out there worth watching?

Karsten Mueller's DVD's for Chessbase are quite good. Although these cover specific endgames, they also have a large number of strategical endings.

Best endgame DVDs?

I don't get around to reading a lot of books lately, but watching a DVD can be combined with other things, so I was wondering what endgame DVDs are out there and which ones do you prefer? I'm particularly looking for material on endgame technique/strategy rather than specific endgames like e.g. R+p vs R, B+R vs R, ...

Thanks!
