If the Bishop goes to b7 like in the Meran, then you pretty much need ...c5 to free it.  If it's still on c8, then ...e5 often the one to play for, usually preceded by ...dxc4 (in which case White's e3-e4 push often forces ...e6-e5). 

It all depends on specifics, naturally.

A general remark:  "...e5 is the most unbalancing stroke in the Slav formation" (Soltis in Pawn Structure Chess).
