I used to play the KID, but it was WAY too complicated for me.

I switched to the Benko Gambit (which is now my main choice against 1.d4) and have never looked back!

Agreed.  Play the Benko and against 2.Nf3 stick to the KID.  At least that way, you avoid the Samisch, the Four Pawns, etc.

Hmm, as a KID player, the Benko might be a nice add for my repertoire.

He is talking about the Perunovic-Variation.

The amount of necessary theoretical knowledge in the Benko is of course much lower than in the KID. Basically Black can play a set-up with ...g6 against almost every line but also has a choice to go with an early ...e6 in the Benko declined. However, as with every other opening it´s important that Black does not play the opening on autopilot.

The practical problem with the Benko is that Black needs something different if White starts with 1.Nf3 Nf6 2.c4 (or 2.g3). Obviously the life of a KID-player is much easier here.

The annoying thing is 2.Nf3. I play the Perjunjoigoewhifjwd variation (the Qa5 line in the fully accepted). The only lines I get with any frequency are 5.b6, 4.Nf3, 4.Qc2, Fianchetto, and 5.e3 (as well as the Perjijfeiuhfoisj variation).

I have been playing KID for all my life and I would like to change it, because there is to much theory in KID and from all other opening I like Benko the most. So my question is how much theory is there, and how much time would it take to learn all variations needed for black side?
