Pavlovic suggests plans with .. Nc6 which are close in spirit to some lines of the Modern.

I note that there is some overlap with early ...Nc6 in the Saemisch, at least with regard to 1. d4 Nf6 2. c4 g6 3. Nc3 Bg7 4. e4 d6 5. f3 Nc6 6. d5 Ne5 7. f4.  (John Watson had some analysis of that in a 1982 book, and the following year it was seen in a game Yusupov-Spassky.)

"In this book I am trying to use some old forgotten or rare lines to test how they stand in the modern times."

This is an interesting approach, as there are gems waiting to be rediscovered in many openings.

The Grunfeld though isn't on my list of repertoire upgrades.

New in Chess are promoting a new book by Milos Pavlovic

The strange thing is that in the sample chapter, which discusses 1. d4 Nf6 2. c4 g6 3. f3, he doesn't discuss lines where Black plays .. d5 anyway. As a Kings Indian player, I don't normally notice too much when White uses this move order, as you just go into the Samisch with the possible variant that White might use the Ng1-e2-c3 plan at some stage. Pavlovic suggests plans with .. Nc6 which are close in spirit to some lines of the Modern.
