There were a lot of books with "Karpov" as the author in the old days, weren't there?  Many not all that great; I wonder if this is another one of those cases.

Ahh wait -- New In Chess has it Russian Chess House as publisher, I think De Beste Zet made a typo.

I think odds are pretty high that this is an older book, possibly with some updates.

but they appear to be brand new books on 1.d4 d5 non-c4 lines and De Beste Zet has PDF excerpts.

Are these translations from a Russian original?

A lot of the illustrative games appear to be old ones, not that there's anything wrong with that unless there are recent improvements. There's a date in the pdf which may imply it was written in 2013 or earlier. There's a lack of focus on 1. d4 d5 2. Bf4 which has only recently become a major idea.

Suddenly these books by Karpov and Kalinichenko appeared today:

http://www.debestezet.nl/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=3304
http://www.debestezet.nl/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=3305

Covers look like old books, Russell Enterprises site doesn't even list them, but they appear to be brand new books on 1.d4 d5 non-c4 lines and De Beste Zet has PDF excerpts.

First is on oddities, 2.Bg5, Blackmar Diemer and Veresov; the second is on London, Torre and Colle and the Romanishin (g3 lines).
