In the game Santos-Santos Black can force White to draw with 17...Kg7. The same mechanism works after 13...Rc8 iso 13...Qb8.
Worth looking at is 10.Rd1 Re8 11.e4 Be7 12.e5 Nh5 and now 13.h4. As becomes clear from De Prado's' comments it's important that Black's queen can't go to e8.
That will be some long, theoretical lines to study .....

Btw 1.d4 Nf6 2.Bf4 c5 3.d5 (instead of 3.e3) Qb6 4.Nc3 Qxb2 5.Bd2 is the Vaganjan Gambit from the Tromp.

The book had the effect good books usually have: it made the stupids more stupid, the intelligent more intelligent and the other thousands of readers remained unchanged.

Searching amazon.de did not find this book on mobile, but it did on the desktop. Searching amazon.com did not find it.

Useful! Thanks, tracke.

Thanks for the link tracke, but I still can't find expected books in the way you suggested. I can only see already published books. Strange...

The Spanish edition came out last year. The translation into English has been completed (by me) and so, as far as I'm aware, the book should be published by New in Chess soon.

Hi, TD! On amazon.de I searched for „New in Chess“ and sorted according to publication day („neu eingetroffen“). Then I got (among others):

https://www.amazon.de/London-System-Practical-Lessons-Strategic/dp/9056919652/re...

I'm surprised I heard nobody about the fact that chapters 9 & 10 are mixed up / switched.

Why play 10. .. Re8? It's a Reti in reverse, so whilst .. Re8 is a possible idea, it's not the only one.

I had the exact position in a tournament game recently. Against the system with the Bishop on e2, plans involving .. e5 can run into problems with the weak d6 square.

Instead I played .. Qc7 and met 11 a4 with 11. .. a6. I think it's always necessary to play .. a6 against a4. After 12. Re1 I played .. Ne4 to block the threat of playing e4. Engines assess the position as 0.00, but as Black I was able to win.

The point of my post was that I couldnt understand what whites advantage consisted of in the posistion at the end of Romero Holmes given line. I still not see it...

A couple of engines suggest White is marginally better, but after Black recaptures on e5, it's all to play for. If that's from a game, it's a little known one. The diagram position at move 12 is quite typical of the variation, but the ensuing tactics are one of many possible lines. Pieces and pawns have taken position, but any actual fighting has yet to start.

It is Romero Holmes who should answer that question.

I`m not to familiar with this opening or its variations as you are. But I learned you are right; black has a number of better variations at move 10 it seems.

I read the excerpt and wasnt that much impressed.
1. d4 Nf6 2. Nf3 g6 3. Bf4 Bg7 4. e3 O-O 5. Be2 d6 6. h3
c5 7. c3 b6 8. O-O Bb7 9. Nbd2 Nbd7 10. Bh2 Re8

Why play 10. .. Re8? It's a Reti in reverse, so whilst .. Re8 is a possible idea, it's not the only one.

Rc8, Qc7 and a6 are all more popular.

As a defender of these positions with Black, the only real choice for White appears to be where the white square Bishop is placed (e2,d3 or c4). The modest Be2 does have the advantage of allowing quick access to the d6 square if Black weakens it with a .. Re8 and .. e5 plan.

I really fail to see an advantage for white here.
After: 18...dxe5 there could follow: 19.Rfd1-Qe7 20.Rab1-Rxb1 21.Qxb1-Nb6. It could be that the pawn on a6 will soon be the weakest pawn on the board. Still chances both ways, of course. But advantage white?

And if this is  true and you manage to mislead  in a preface/introduction of a book, then....
