If you have got rid of Benkö, why go back?

I haven't exactly got rid of it, I just wanted to play more solid. Therefore I chose the Slav, with good results, but sometimes I get those romantic feelings again of years ago when I was playing the Benko and the Dragon. Especially with Black I like to have a solid AND a dynamic repertoire.

If you have got rid of Benkö, why go back?

Benkö is nowadays a very different beast it used to be. Believe me, I have played it all my life, but now I consider taking something else.

As I have noted there, you don´t avoid the Tromp this way because of 1.d4 c5 2.d5 Nf6 3.Bg5 with a direct transposition.

I don't know if this question has already been asked (by myself?; in Benko topic or Weird Benonis) but I was wondering if I can reach the Benko as much or as easily via 1...c5? I don't mind the Schmid Benoni and I dislike the Tromp. What are the pro's and con's?
