Ok thanks, I met Qc7 instead in the in swedish division 1 team match  I mentioned where I got a strong atttack and won.
Qd8 is a more tricky line when I think Khalifman covered it as the mainline. I have not looked at the line for ages since I dont play Bc4 yugoslav with white anymore.

EDIT Khalifman covers it and gives Be2 and white is a tempo up on a normal Be2 line.
He writes however that that tempo is not that important.

Can anybody who already owns the book confirm which are the recommended lines against the Yugoslav line and against the Maroczy?

7...Qa5 AND 7...0-0 8.Bb3 a6.

What does he recommened after 7 .. Qa5 8 0-0? I had the impression that Nb3 after either 0-0 or d6 gives white a Be2 line with some tempo up? I won some game as White in a team match using it some years ago.

8.0-0 0-0 9.Nb3 Qd8!

Panjwani gives 9...Nxd4 10.Bxd4 Bd7 11.Qd3! a6!? (11...Bc6?!12.b4!+=; 11...a5 12.b3! Bc6 13.a3) 12.b4! Therefore he thinks 9...Bd7 is significantly better. 10.Nc2 Rc8! 11.f3 Be6! and ends with +=, but gives a very good explanation about that.

That looks curious.  So 9...Bd7 should lead to +=; 9...Nxd4 is significantly worse, but after that and an additional dubious move by Black, it is also +=.

I am no expert on the AD and am currently not working on the book, so all I can say right now is: buy the book and enjoy the many variations and explanations!

@TonyRo: I use the move order with
1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.d4 cd4: 4.Nd4: g6 5.c4 Bg7 6.Be3 Nf6 7.Nc3 0-0 8.Be2 d6 9.0-0 Nd4:!? 10.Bd4: a5 followed by Bc8-d7-c6.
True, white has additional options, but I think they are less annoying than 9. ... Bd7 10.Nc2.
If white on the other hand plays Nc2 earlier, e.g. on move 9, then Black can put his bishop on e6, which seems like the best setup to me.

Can anybody who already owns the book confirm which are the recommended lines against the Yugoslav line and against the Maroczy?

Regarding the 5 Nc3 main line - is there any discussion of modern ideas such as ...Re8 or the quick ...d5 pseudo-pawn sacrifice?

I like the 15...e6!? line a lot, but I could never find anything against 10.Nc2!, which is also very logical and principled.

Hmm, I don't think I've ever heard of 7...Ng4 (a/the old main line of the Maroczy) being called the Breyer Variation.

Neither had I; I googled "Accelerated Dragon Breyer".

http://www.chessgames.com/perl/chesscollection?cid=1009205

https://www.masterchessopen.com/eco-code-b35-b40-on-chess-boards.html

https://www.chess.com/forum/view/chess-openings/accelerated-fianchetto-breyer-va...

As the author wrote "it's my repertoire" I also did a database research and found the game Shankland-Panjwani. Finally the variation fits the description "risky Larsen style" best.

The book had the effect good books usually have: it made the stupids more stupid, the intelligent more intelligent and the other thousands of readers remained unchanged.

1) John Donaldson, Jeremy Silman: Accelerated Dragons

2) Peter Lalic: Play the Accelerated Dragon

3) Andrew Greet: The Accelerated Dragon

Thanks for reply.

TD wrote earlier that this new book is good on explanations, so maybe it's all you need?

Probably the best older book in terms of strategic explanations isn't on your list: The one by Peter Heine Nielsen and Carsten Hansen (Batsford 1998 if I recall correctly). But I hear that one's very hard to get hold of these days.

The Silman/Donaldson book is similar but with less explanations; both tried to offer complete coverage and were large for their time.

I also like Greet's book. It's less detailed than those two "bibles", but very detailed for a "Starting Out" book. And obviously more up-to-date than Nielsen/Hansen and Silman/Donaldson in some lines.

I own all 4 books, but I am not a regular AD practioner. I liked Greet's book VERY much and I think Lalic's book is the least good.

The sample (page 10) refers to 15...e6 and 15...Qb6, presumably as mentioned earlier in this thread.

That's a wide choice for a repertoire book if all three lines are covered. No doubt the naysayers will say none of them are sufficient...

At the very least the AD is a good backup Sicilian: It's solid (not many quick attacking wins for White), not that theoretical, and 2.Nf3 g6!? will annoy som Whites who don't get to play their favorite "anti".
