Seeing that 7-man endgame in Kotronias book was strange indeed. Why recommend something like that before all other options were exhausted? Which in this case they certainly did not seem to be. Black has what looks like easy equality at one point earlier in the line for example.

Yes, I know.
You can play KID in correspondence chess only if you are a good OTB player and you know what you are doing. Otherwise, the engine evaluations of all the contemporary engines will scare you and you will start making moves as per their evaluations, which could be totally wrong strategically.
There are variations in Mar del Plata which are evaluated by Houdini or Stockfish about 1.65 for white. Very depressing as you may imagine!
To cut it short, you have to believe in yourself!
And besides, KID is almost the only opening in today's correspondence chess where you can win a full point with black, even against a strong opposition.
