I noticed alyechin did not know 6...Qa4 was called "The Portisch-Hook Variation" (by John Watson, for instance), since Portisch has earlier known games with it than Hook, and also wrote a couple of pages on it in How To Open A Chess Game. Wink

Actually, there is an even earlier game than Portisch' 1950s efforts with ...Qa5-a4. Though there ...c4 was never played, so it's debatable whether it's really the same line. "Marini variation", anyone?

I noticed IM Baskin did not know 6...Qa4 was called "The Hook Variation" after his founder William Hook from British Virgin Islands.

He called it "The Kovalenko Variation".
