One also can alter the ending of a file. Just change EXE to PGN. If a user then (double) clicks to open the file, there you go.

I suppose it will then try to open ChessBase, which will say the PGN is corrupted.
Anyway, I think I see your point: subscribers can zip a PGN file (or whatever) then change the suffix to PGN to post it here. They would then have to warn everyone to change the suffix back to ZIP after they download the file, then unzip it to get the original (bigger) PGN file. It's possible, but I can't see many subscribers being bothered to do this.

Why just don't ZIP them?

That sounds dangerous, ZIPped files could contain anything, which is why we don't allow them.

I got that, but any file can contain anything. Even PDFs or images such as JPGs. One also can alter the ending of a file. Just change EXE to PGN. If a user then (double) clicks to open the file, there you go.

Make sure you properly check the header/mime-type of an uploaded file. Just checking the extension is not enough.

Hi.

The basic problem is that the attach file function is not even visible (on many but not all subforums).

You're right, that's weird. I think I've fixed them all now, but if there are any without the attachment function please don't hesitate to let me know. Smiley

Great! Thanks.

Hi.

Actually I think there is a 10Kb size limit for attachments, but I can certainly make this bigger if it's a problem. If so, how big?

The basic problem is that the attach file function is not even visible (on many but not all subforums).

As for size I don't know what's best. It seems pgns that I make end up being roughly 5-15kb. Maybe 50kb, which I imagine would enable posting of even the most insanely large pgns?

Have a nice day.

If you make large pgns, over 11 000 characters this is problematic. Reason for this is that you can't have more characters than 11 000 in a single post, meaning if you have a pgn which itself is over 11000 characters you can't post it. Obviously you would have the option of splitting the pgn and posting it in multiple posts, though this is not ideal to say the least.

Thanks for that, although I would hope there is a way to make this possible on all forums  Huh

Greetings.

Attaching pgns does not seem possible for dozens of subforums. Any fix to this?

If you make large pgns, over 11 000 characters this is problematic. Reason for this is that you can't have more characters than 11 000 in a single post, meaning if you have a pgn which itself is over 11000 characters you can't post it. Obviously you would have the option of splitting the pgn and posting it in multiple posts, though this is not ideal to say the least.

Since attaching stuff in some subforums is not possible, maybe this thread can be used as a substitute posting location for pgn attachments (mostly large)? As long as you reference which thread the pgn should be in of course.

I'll attach the following at least and then someone can remove if my idea is rejected. This should be in:
Forum: 1...e4
Subforum: Pirc
Thread: "Pirc 4 Bg5: Best Lines/Move Orders"
Reply number: 66

Have a nice day.
