I have no idea about regular Blumenfeld since I never played or knows theory at all it so I can not compare but in Nimzo version black get very good play in my experiece. It most favor black to have a active Bishop at b4 and a pawn to h6 while white has a bishop at h4 and no knight at f3 and a pinned knight at c3.  The article was written from blacks point of view.

About  Benoni lines the bok "Opening repertour : Nimzo and Bogo Indian" went for dark squared centre lines and thus Benoni style vs both f3 and Bg5.  Vs Qc2 Zurich and vs e3 Hubner.

Sorry for starting the off-topic stuff! But Black very often plays c5 in the Nimzo (although White rarely pushes the pawn), so they're vaguely related, I guess.

There are seveal Nimzo lines, like in f3 system or Bg5 system where black plays in Benoni styles and whites best move is to push the pawn.

Oh yes, I forgot those lines. Smiley So there is some connection. Of course the Nimzo has connections to lots of openings, depending on the line and also black's mood (2535262022342D284702, QGD, CK, ...) so it's not the only one you could pair it with.

We can transpose back to the main start of this thread by adding that vs Bg5 black can transpose to a line called "A souped-up Blumenfeld" (aka Tal Gambit)  in "Dangereus Weapons the Nimzo Indian". I have ordered the DVD now but I would not get it until next tuesday.

Would the souped up bit be beneficial to black or white here?

This i didnt know and would be interested in finding out more. Are there any books which cover this?

Yes, I think it was probably something to do with trying to make each section sufficiently large. I never understood why Dragons had a whole section to itself rather than, say, the Najdorf, but this was already in place when I bought the site.

As a former Dragon player I only subscriiped to Dragon section. Many Dragon players where only interested in their pet line.

I'd guess it's more to do with sharing out openings between sections so that they all get as much coverage as they warrant more than it is to do with any objective classification. Perhaps Tony felt there'd simply be too much ground to cover if Daring Defences incorporated the Benoni as well as everything else that's included.

It might also have something to do with the fact that John Emms plays both the NID and the Benoni.

About sections I belive is is related to subscription sections.

This is what I was trying to explain, but I didn't make myself very clear.

In order to play Nimzo one needs have a defence prepared is white does not play 3 Nc3.
Some players do combine Nimzo with Benoni to rule out some critical Benoni lines.

Yes, this makes a lot of sense and I expect you're right, that's probably the reasoning behind the way the sections are divided up.

I have the DVD, let me know if you have any specific line you want to know about. I haven't looked at it too deeply but Andrew Martin is enthusiastic as usual.

PS: I thought this belongs in the Daring Defenses subforum?

I guess the subtitle of the video refers to the benoni. Also, i never fully understood why Benoni was in with Nimzo and not daring defenses...
