When the book was new some Swedish top players played it for a short period.
I dont think they plays it anymore for some unclear reasons.

Speaking of odd openings there is a Swedish book about e4 e5 d4 cxd4 Qxd4 Nc6 Qa4 that even got a 2nd updated edition.

I also think there was some chessbase DVD for white about 1 c3.

This proves that books can be written about any openings.
Whats next a3 vs french?

Try a Google search like this:

Quote:
site:www.chesspub.com Bezgodov a3

I easily found several threads. Most of them related to the original 2004 book by Bezgodov, obviously.

I'm not sure if there is a thread specifically on Soloviev's updated and expanded edition. Maybe 2.a3 was old news by then...

Then how come I can't find the archived version of that thread?

Well, the book is already a few years old.

And yet I can't find any decent reviews of this two year old book. I'm surprised it hasn't appeared yet in this forum until now.

I thought there was a thread on this move when the book came out?

The move order in this book is very specific... 1.e4 c5 2.a3. I'm aware trans positions are of course possible. However its interesting that according to the authors of this book its essentially an improved version of the Wing gambit by first moving the pawn to a3 before pushing b4. This opening variation is going to become more well known soon as the analysis of this book becomes more widely available. It's already well known in Bulgaria where the variation cropped up. I'm sure Carlsen who loves obscure openings is looking at this.

I don´t know the book but I believe this is not as silly as it looks, at least not as silly as the Four Knights with 4.a3 which is discussed in another thread.  Smiley

If you treat the position like a reversed Sicilian (aka English Opening  Wink) I can imagine to fill so many pages with all the stuff possible after 1.c4 e5, but with the little move a2-a3 thrown in.

I'm curious on any thoughts about this title. This is a thick theory book at more than 500 pages on 1.e4 c5 2.a3!? discussing various tries by Black to refute the a3 variation. Kotronias in his anti Sicilian book only covered the g6 reply to the a3 variation. But this book goes way beyond the g6 reply to cover virtually all of Black's replies. Any thoughts?
