9. ...Nxd4? - hm, actually this move is known as bad for ages.
check Van der Wiel - Van de Mortel, 12.h4 (1996)

The older, the better - over 2200 and still rising.

Hi all,

I wonder about the current status of the following line against the 9.0-0-0 Nxd4 10.Bxd4 Be6 dragon:

1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 d6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 Nf6 5. Nc3 g6 6. Be3 Bg7 7. f3 O-O 8. Qd2 Nc6 9. O-O-O Nxd4 10. Bxd4 Be6 11. Kb1 Qc7 12. g4 Rfc8 13. h4 Qa5 14. a3 Rab8 15. h5 b5 16. h6

[I would include a pgn visor, but I am still not allowed to do so]

The last move (16.h6) is recommended by Amanov and Kavutskiy in their book "Modernized: The Sicilian Defense", where they show the game Zufic vs Rezan, Zadar open, 2008, as the "refutation" of the black setup. However, most strong players seem to prefer the continuation 16.hxg6. Anybody knows why is that?

Closing the Kingside with h6 is somewhat unnatural in the Yugoslav attack, and I think a lot of players will find it unintuitive to handle the dragon in this way.

In fact, I should mention that according to Amanov and Kavutskiy, white can play without g4, and postpone it after h6 is played.

Computers have always tended to like these sorts of space gaining/piece shutting in move so maybe its down to their influence.

I thinks it a matter of taste, there are theory on both lines.

I think that hxg6 is the traditional move.

At any rate theory considers this system as better for white.

Fortunately I am.
