Maybe the authors want to keep their analysis of 7...e6 to themselves for use in their own games while the line is still hot.

My view is that the parts on main line of the Capablanca line with 4...Af5 are okay, but I would have preferred the newer lines like 7...e6 instead of doing 7...Cd7. Books seem to analyse 7...Cd7 but I know not why, as 7...e6 surely is the hot topic these days.

Can anybody please change Bologon to Bologan in the subject title? Not only in honour of such a great player, but also for the Custom Search.

Btw in the 1.e4 ... section "Bologan Caro-Kann book" is also a topic...

Based on a brief browse, it's interesting to compare his treatment of the advance Caro (Short system with Nf3 and Be2) with that of Fernandez. I think it reflects the relative ages of the authors as Bologan is able to quote one of his own games from 1992 shortly after the birth of the system. His treatment reflects the point that there are a number of different piece and pawn configurations by both players and it's taken the past nearly thirty years to establish which were the best.

Fernandez on the other hand leaps in with a long and complex line in a .. c5 c4 position and only really starts discussing alternatives from about move 12.

I've been playing the system ever since Hartston in a newspaper column drew attention to it as a totally new approach against the Caro by Nigel. I'm still not really sure what I regard as the main line. Nigel's original treatment was that it was an Advance French with a possibly misplaced Bishop on f5. So you met .. c5 with c3. The ideas of playing dxc5 and c4 only came along slightly later.

I'm just starting to work my way through it. It's not bad, but it can be a bit light on alternatives, variations, and explanation. I like what I've seen so far, but the reader has a lot of work to do to supplement the recommendations.

Going by the excerpt the author does not seem to be aware of "e3 Poison" which contains a chapter about the Panov. At least Bologan gives only two relatively weak white 9th moves in Smith´ main line... Sad

I wonder if it will follow the lines of his Caro-Kann DVD?

Maybe Santa will bring a Caro-Kann tank top to go with it  Cool

The follow up to Bologon’s Kings Indian and Bologon’s Ruy Lopez/Open Games, it seems we now have Bologon’s Caro-Kann to look forward to next year!
