What do you reckon then?
Taimanov? Scheveningen? Kan?

You could consider combining the Kalashnikov with the Accelerated Dragon, transposing to the Dragon when it suits you. Main line: 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Nc3 g6 4.d4 cxd4 5.Nxd4 Bg7 6.Be3 Nf6 7.Bc4 O-O 8.Bb3 d6 9.f3 (9.h3) Bd7.

Which ever you enjoy more. I think Bragejo switched to Taimanov.

I have already made a total switch. Hower I am currently playing Dragon in corr chess at ICCF since I play in a thematical Dragon tournament.

It takes a lot of time to keep up with all latest developments in the Dragon in every important sideline and  about 80-90 % of all games are anti sicilians anyway. In anti sicilians line 2 Nc3 I think that e6 is the easiest way to equalice since whites best is probebly to transpose to open sicilian. However if one plays Dragon you suddenly need to play both Dragon and some e6 based sicilian or enter more dangereus anit sicilians instead of playing 2 .. e6.  And before you ask 2 Nc3 is not a refutation of sicilian and I play Open Sicilian with white and black is fine in the mainlines of 2 Nc3 if one knows theory.

When I switched openings towards more easy to maintain lines I got more time to study the old masters to actually improve in general chess understanding and not openings fase in this concrete variation.

Would you consider a total switch then?
I find that I rarely get punished for the dragon, most of the time I get various anti-sicilians which I'm happy facing and it seems like a lot of work to learn something else.

I am aware that the dragon type structures probably limit my development as a chessplayer though because the positional plans are stereotypical and rarely change.

Indeed. More interesting than it looks, but somewhat depressing for a dragon player. Dragon is nowadays a drawing weapon, not so much a winning attempt

Well this line is not the only problem. Several sharper lines of Bc4 Yugoslav leeds to forced draws if both sides remember theory. And g4 Yugoslav endings can also be difficult to play for a win in.

Blacks best bet is 12...Bxd4 13.Qxd4 Qb6 and if  now 14 Na4 than Qc7.
The line is well covered in GM Repertour Sicilian Dragon by Jones.

Thanks Brasejo, I'll learn that line and maybe mix in a few 12...e5s as a surprise.

Hi guys, been out of the loop for a while in chess but looking to pick up where I left off. Was playing 12...e5 for a long time, but it appears to have fallen on hard times, and I've been dismantled a few times recently there.

I'm aware of the alternatives (12...Bxd4 13.Qxd4 Qb6), (12...Bxd4 13.Qxd4 Qc7!?) and (12...Nxc3)

Where is worth putting the most effort in?
I'm going to keep playing 12...e5 until I can pick up one of the others.
