Any news about this?

@Tony: have you tried to restore the thread?
Alternatively perhaps it might make sense to attach Stigma's html files here.

I can send what I have saved if it's helpful. Just let me know.

Could you PM me an e-mail address? I thought I would find it on the main site, but so far I haven't. Really busy with a deadline today, but will send late in the evening.

Hi Stigma, I much appreciate your help. It would be a pity if all the work that went into that thread would be lost.

A while ago I thought about using a software like HTTrack myself, to save important websites for offline browsing. Maybe a good idea.  Smiley

I should look into software like that myself to save some time, I have lots of web pages saved manually.

It's not like I have this entire forum backed up, just selected threads that caught my interest. But you never know when you want to look something up even when you're offline, or when something disappears from the net... For instance, I used to think I had forever to save free Chesscafe content, but now there's a subscription fee to access it. Great variety there both in content and quality. But some of the columns were excellent, like the ones by Dvoretsky, Karsten Müller, you, Tim Harding and the short-lived one by Langrock.

Going by the capture FightingDragon found, I probably have the entire thread (in addition to a .pgn file with IM Andrew Martin's contribution - he posted it directly as a post, but in pgn format).

If it's not possible to reconstruct the thread within the forum structure, it could be made available to the community in some other way.

Has anybody checked the Wayback Machine for a captured copy?

@GMTonyKosten: If you have a link to the actual competition page, you could try inserting it there. (http://archive.org/web/)

The page was http://www.chesspub.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1238509160/all, I think, but I can't find it anywhere, not even in my backups.

Yes, I do, I'll have a look to see if I have any from a long time ago.

This capture from November 2013 seems to suggest there were no posts after 2009.
I tried some more recent captures, but most of them either didn't work, didn't have the French subforum in them or the Kaissiber thread wasn't shown there.

I actually have a backup of that thread saved (split into several .htm files). Might be useful for reconstructing it.

It's not a very recent copy - the last post I have is Reply #78 - 07/01/09. The competition itself was finished 1,5 months before that, but maybe there were further comments through the years.

Perhaps it can be resurrected from a backup?!

Strange, I re-indexed the messages just in case, but I still can't find it. I did find one link to it, but that page no longer existed. I have no idea where it can have gone to, threads shouldn't vanish like that  Sad

It seems the thread 'C11: Kaissiber Theoretical Competition' has completely vanished from the forum.

I wasn't able to locate it in different French subforums, also a google search didn't turn up anything.
I remember that it was always listed under the 'important topics' header, but also don't see it there.

This is a shame, as I remember it had a lot of interesting analysis on the 6.dc5: line in the Classical.  Cry

Can anyone help?

I can't find it either. Perhaps John Watson has borrowed it for his work on his next column?  Smiley

At least the Fyfe Gambit thread is still in existence.
