The Aljechin-Chatard line is accepting the gambit, something that I would not want to play.

Really? That is nice as I am planning to play that line with White.  Wink
What move does he give after 8.Qd3? And does he consider 8.Nb5?

Since it is a French DVD, I downloaded the French version  Cheesy

Might be a bit short, yes. Maybe some of the theory is covered in the example games. Grischuk - Wang is probably this game http://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1732062 which went 4...Nfd7 5.f4 c5 6.Nf3 Nc6 7.Be3 Be7 8.Qd2 b6 etc.

Yes, it is that line. setup with ...b6/...Ae7. To me this is "newer" than the older lines with 7...a6, but I prefer them.

The Aljechin-Chatard line is accepting the gambit, something that I would not want to play.

Tarrasch line was unexpected. It was with 3...Cf6 followed by early ...b6 ideas to exchange bitchops and playing a closed game instead of the main lines with ...Cc6.

Only 19 minutes to explain the Classical ?

   1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.Nc3 Nf6 4.e5 - Video notation [19:13]

I know nothing about Yannick's presentation style, but I think it's a bit short.

Salut,

After bragging about how sharp the French is, that line and 4.Bg5 Be7 are somewhat ironic choices. Maybe we're meant to sit there secretely hoping for the Alekhine-Chatard gambit?  Smiley
The other repertoire choices look sharp enough.

"The French Defence is the sharpest opening setup against 1.e4."

Who knew?

It's in the Chessbase shop here:

https://shop.chessbase.com/en/products/pelletier_a_classical_guide_to_the_french

If you follow the link and click on the 'Contents' tab, it should tell you what you want to know.

https://www.schachversand.de/de/a-classical-guide-to-the-french-defence.html

The DVD is called La Défense Française - 1. e4 e6 by Pelletier, I guess comes out soon.

As of now I only see the description without variation tree on some chess shops. I do wonder what he recommends though.
