Ah, thank you! I'm a bit confused though -- after 6 Nf3, 6 ...Ne7 seems a reasonable alternative to 6 ...Qd7, but I thought 6 Bg5 Ne7? ran into 7 Be7!

Typed wrong, it is 6...Dd7 after 6. Ag5, but 6. Cf3 Ce7: 6. Cf3 Ce7 7. Ag5 Dd7, transposing position same as 6. Ag5 Dd7 7. Cf3.

I have the database, and in Chapter 16 with 7. Cf3, he mentions that 5. Dg4 Af8 6. Cf3 Ce7 7. Ag5 is another move order transposing 6. Ag5 Ce7 7. Cf3, so it is covered this way.

Really enjoyed looking at the free overview -- I'd previously rather superficially put this line down as a bit stodgy and unexciting as I hadn't realised just how many concrete ideas it contained!

I think many White players think that the Winawer lines are easy wins for them or something. In my opinion these lines are all playable for Black:

-3. Cc3 Ab4 4. e5 Dd7
-3. Cc3 Ab4 4. e5 b6
-3. Cc3 Ab4 4. e5 Ce7
-3. Cc3 Ab4 4. e5 c5 5. a3 Aa5
-3. Cc3 Ab4 4. e5 c5 5. a3 Axc3+ 6. bxc3 Da5
-3. Cc3 Ab4 4. e5 c5 5. a3 Axc3+ 6. bxc3 Dc7
-3. Cc3 Ab4 4. e5 c5 5. a3 Axc3+ 6. bxc3 Cc6
-3. Cc3 Ab4 4. e5 c5 5. a3 Axc3+ 6. bxc3 Ce7 7. Dg4 0-0

Is 5 Qg4 Bf8 6 Nf3 missing, or am I blind?

This is the beauty of the Winawer for OTB chess. So many variations that black can opt for!

Very true. It should be a good practical weapon if Black has a good understanding of the typical Winawer structures and switches between a few different lines (even if those lines are not 100% correct).

This database looks really thorough, and I'm already a fan of Marin's work. Some of the positions given in the overview remind me of a line I played in my youth: Nimzowitsch' 1.e4 Nc6 2.d4 d5 3.e5 Bf5. Though there of course the "French" bishop is already outside the pawn chain.

Today is published the 2th Part of Marin's French. He chooses 3. Cc3 Ab4 4. e5 b6 line. I also bought this database, and there are 25 chapters, with Chapters 11-25 on 4. e5 b6 alone.

I still like 7. Dg4 0-0, but I suppose that the theory is getting ridiculous there  Cheesy

It's the line I play myself (4...b6)  Angry

I hope my analysis for Black would be surprising anyway despite his "interfering appearance"  Cool

Out of jokes... maybe it's interesting to see what a world class theoretician have to say in my pet line.

Hmm, so he goes with 5. Ngf3 Nc6 6. Bb5 cd.
(a line I associate with the Hübner-Korchnoi match in '80/81)

First part is on Tarrasch and recommends 3. Cd2 c5 4. exd5 exd5.

Looks interesting. I wonder what will recommend for 3. Cc3?  Cheesy
