Well I've just got it after many years of relying on free software. Nothing quite compares to CB's ability to manipulate databases...

But main problems I have is that I can't access the online database (chesslive.de) and the new replay training function is abit glitchy. The former is a real dampener on an otherwise great product though. Wonder if anyone has experienced the same issues?

Thanks for taking the trouble to make that video: there's a lot of interesting and helpful info in there.

It looks to me as though Chessbase have somewhat exaggerated the speed gain in the reference search, which is disappointing but not unexpected. I like the look of the plan explorer, though.

Most of the stuff that's added every time a new version comes out is just bells and whistles, as far as I'm concerned, and of no practical value to me whatsoever. However, my eye was drawn in the puff for Chessbase 15 by the promise of a greatly speeded-up reference search function:

"The reference search is the central tool to study openings. ChessBase 15 introduces new search technology which yields instant search results on modern computers. Even in early positions, where there are millions of games to scan, the result is immediately available."

Has anyone who's already upgraded got any thoughts about this claim?

This article has some details of the new features.

https://en.chessbase.com/post/announcing-grand-chessbase-15-release

Replay training, endgame probability and plan explorer looks very useful, but not sure worth it to upgrade. Agree on the 3-d stuff, I would never use that.

Does anyone still use Chess Assistant or SCID?

The one feature I would love to see in Chessbase is spaced repetition on repertoire databases and training databases. Any sign of that in the last couple of versions?

I just went from 10 to 14 a year ago, I don't know any reason to upgrade again.

I chuckle every time I see new versions of Chessbase. At least to me, there are still tons of things they could be doing to improve the program, and yet they're still messing around with ray-tracing and 3D boards. What percentage of people have ever even turned on 3D boards in Chessbase? When have you seen people using it? For me, literally not one time.

I'd guess that CB15 is 99% equivalent in function to CB12, and that's hundreds and hundreds of dollars ago. But I digress.

I wonder how they can keep on finding things to improve with a program that has been around for so long?

The advertisement/blog-post on the ChessBase site mentions that "The program also generates beautiful ray-trace chess movies you can post on social media"! Sounds like ChessBase 14 has instantly been made obsolete Sad

I also have CB14 but haven't even started using that yet! I'm still using CB12 and 13 and will probably only change when the online position search stops working.

Chessbase 15 has just been released. Anybody know if this is worth the upgrade pricing or should I just keep using Chessbase 14?
