Two weeks have passed, the nominations so far are:

  • Playing 1.e4, volumes 2 and 3 by John Shaw (Quality Chess),
Leningrad Dutch DVD's from Pruijssers & Williams,
John Shaws two 1.e4 books: 'Sicilian main lines' and 'French defence  and Sicilian Sidelines',
Chigorin bible by Sokolov and Sokolov (?),
Bc4 Against the Open Games, Alexander Delchev, Chess Stars,
First Steps: 1.e4 e5 by John Emms,
    The Modernized Reti by Demuth,
Trompowsky Attack, Dmitry Kryakvin, Chess Stars,
The Sicilian Najdorf by J & J Dojknas, Everyman Chess,
How to Beat the Open Games, Sverre Johnsen,
Grandmaster Repertoire: Queen's Indian Defence Michael Roiz

Any more? How shall I order the list, alphabetic?

Looks like you have the Shaw 1.e4 books there twice? There should probably be one entry for each of them.

I could nominate Keep it Simple: 1.e4 by Sielecki. I have only studied parts of it in electronic form, but I believe the contents is more or less the same as the book.

NB: The Chigorin Bible is by Sokolov and Salgado Lopez.

Nothing particularly excites me in that 2018 list. But for 2019, just give Matthew Sadler and Natasha Regan the award right now.

There are no actions to perform.
That means that there are no nominations for the following books on the original poll, unless I've made a mistake somewhere:

  • The Modernized Najdorf, The Modernized Nimzo and The Modernized Benko Gambit all by Pavlovic,
Keep it Simple: 1.e4 - Sielecki,
    Bologan's Caro-Kann - Bologan,
The Art of the Tarrasch Defence - Bezgodov,
The Full English Opening - Hansen,
    The Modern English, 1.c4 e5 - Georgiev & Semkov,
    Play 1.d4 d5 2.c4 e6! - Kornev,
    The Modernized Caro-Kann - Fernandez,
Play the Queen's Indian Defence - Solozhenkin

Maybe I will leave it for another couple of weeks, to give more time to read all the 2018 books?

That was published this year? Then I second the nomination. I've been going through it on Forward Chess, comparing it to (print) Marin and Bologan. I love the format--for each section, a memorable game, then an outline of the main line, then a tree of variations. Seems to strike a great balance between being an indigestible tome and being light on detail. The lines are not too computer-y, despite what the blurb says.

Yes, it's my favorite of the many 1...e5 repertoire books that have come out in recent years.

It wouldn't be a BOTY thread if we didn't spend more time discussing procedure than we do discussing the actual books  Smiley

it's also why we usually wait a little longer to start the polls, so that people have had a chance to read those books that came out in November or December.

I can always extend the period for nominations.

We've always used the copyright date for the first printing in the past.  There has to be some hard and fast cutoff; it's also why we usually wait a little longer to start the polls, so that people have had a chance to read those books that came out in November or December.
