The reversed Leningrad with 1. f4 had a specific name. Isbjørnsystemet or something...

in English: the Ice Bear or Polar Bear

The Grandmaster he refers to is probably Danielsen then.

he gives lines where he plays b3 and Bb2 in a Leningrad type position and seems to play f4 when he can.

I'm not quite sure what you mean here. I don't have the DVD, but f4 is played on move 1 throughout, judging by the contents list.

Also curious to see what he gives 's the Froms

If you go to the page about the DVD on the Chessbase site and click on the 'Contents' tab, you'll find the answers to at least some of your questions. Here's what is given against the From Gambit:

1...e5 - Froms Gambit
01: From Gambit Intro [03:54]
02: 2...Nc6 3.Nf3 g5 4.d4 g4 5.Ng5 - Schlechter Gambit - Video Analysis [19:44]
03: 2...d6 3.exd6 Bxd6 4.Nf4 Rare 4th moves - Video Analysis [03:32]
04: 2...d6 3.exd6 Bxd6 4.Nf4 Nf6 5.Nc3 Ng4/Nc6 - Video Analysis [19:58]
05: 2...d6 3.exd6 Bxd6 4.Nf4 g5 5.d3 g4 6.Nd4 - Lasker Variation - Video Analysis [27:52]

I would be interested in how he handles when Black tries to play a KID setup trying to play for ...d6/e5.

Likely a transposition to the Vienna: 1.e4 e5 2.Nc3 Nc6 3.g3 g6 4.Bg2 Bg7 5.d3 d6 6.f4 and 7.Nf3.

The book had the effect good books usually have: it made the stupids more stupid, the intelligent more intelligent and the other thousands of readers remained unchanged.

I was thinking of getting this DVD too. I remember I bought a book on this opening once, by some Icelandic GM. The reversed Leningrad with 1. f4 had a specific name. Isbjørnsystemet or something...

I would be interested in how he handles when Black tries to play a KID setup trying to play for ...d6/e5. I would found this more annoying to play against, same as when White manages to play something similar with 1. c4 f5 against Leningrad Dutch except it is a Botwinnik structure.

For some reason many Black players choose 1. f4 d5. To me this seems like a pure tempo-plus Leningrad Dutch for White with no concession. So many on practical level 1. f4 is good choice  Cheesy

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone got to look at the Bombastic Bird dvd by chess base and what they think of it? I am kinda interested in it. I always thought the Bird was interesting and think it's probably a good opening to play to cut down on the study time. The author says he has a number of novelties in it too which could be interesting. I did notice from the description he gives lines where he plays b3 and Bb2 in a Leningrad type position and seems to play f4 when he can. Also curious to see what he gives 's the Froms (something I know I have to book up on). Oh also is this an aggressive rep he gives in general? I don't play the Leningrad so not the most farmilar with those positions. When I played the bird I usually did stone wall or Bird Larsen stuff. Thanks.
