I'm curious what that line is if you're willing to share https://www.chesspub.com/yabbfiles/Templates/Forum/default/smiley.gif

The tournament was supposed to have started some days ago now it "Starts when filled". The are enough players for two groups but its uneven numbers of players.

The line I intend to play as black was (no board at moment, maybee I made some tyops).

1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 g6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Bg7 5. c4 Nc6 6. Be3 Nf6 7 Nc3 Ng4 8 Qxg4 Nxd4 9 Qd1 e5.

Objectiv i I think white is slightly better but there has been new recent development where black delays castling and plays d6 and Be6 first.

EDIT The old school refutation from the 90:s,  10 Nb5 is for example met by d6

What's your idea against the Maroczy? That is the main thing that would bother me, if I were playing this event.

The tournamnet starts in a few days now, I dont know the participetns either yet.

I found an interesting line vs Maroccy that I try to play over the board play since I find the line interesting, but everyone prefers anti siclians like 3 c3 or 3 Bc4 or else they play Qxd4 vs g6 move order. However I would not play that line in rated corr games since I suspect that white is better with best play but the event is not rated so  it does not matter.

I also found an interesitng way to play vs Morra Gambit since one book had a sort of novelty for black in declined with d3 system.

Not sure if this is the line that you are talking about. But I do not think it should be trouble. You just have to know your stuff!

What book is that?

The book is Panjwanis 2nd edition of Hyper accelerated Dragon.

The line starts with 1 e4 c5 2 d4 cxd4 3 c3 d3 4 Bxd3  g6 5 c4 Bg7 6 Nf3 d6 7 h3 (else Bg4 is strong) Nf6 8 00 00 9 Nc3 Nfd7 is the new idea. The idea is to play Bxc3 after moves like Be3 or Bg5 and then play Ne5. White can hardly avoid the double pawn scenarion without consessions. The idea is to play Nd7 as soon as white plays Nc3 beofr whtie can play Qd2. I have not computer checked the line but it looks plausible for black.I have seen similar idea several years ago in a other Marocy Bind variation but with black even having a out pf placed pawn on a5 where white  quickly play Nc2 to avoid Knight Exchange at d4 where one book written for white (Experts vs Siciilian) thought better for white an one book (Opening for black Explained) thought an edge for black.

If I was you I would check on that idea Nfd7 even before casting. So that you don't give white time for any reinforcement. I have played some bullets with that. And lots of times I maneuvered like that. But placing a pawn on a5 and Nc5. Sometimes pushing...a4 with the idea...a3 because the Nc3 could have no defender on the line 1.e4 c5 2.d4 cxd4 3.c3 d3 4.c4 Nc6 5.Bxd3 g6 6.Nf3 d6 7.0-0 Nf6 8.Nc3 Nfd7 and next ....Bg7 and ...a5. I wonder if 4...a5 could be possible (It stops b4 ideas) followed by 5...g6. Maybe 4...g6 should be enough and roll the a pawn all the way to a3 if possible.

But of course in your case you are playing the Maroczy approach in which the knight is already on d4 after 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 g6 5 c4

There is a recent "20th anniversary" Kindle reissue of this book

Thanks, I will buy that book too in the future now that I know what the book is about.

I have that book in Kindle. It will suit you well. It has different ideas. I would say it is the latest word on the Maroczy against the Sicilian ...g6.

But the Carsten Hansen's 20th Anniversary should help you a lot.

Just FYI this updated book by Nielsen and Hansen is now also on Forward Chess, and quite cheap there too.

If I tried to avoid as many Anti-Sicilians as possible I would go for 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 g6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3 d6. I know that you are on a Maroczy Thematical. So you can't deviate. But the Carsten Hansen's 20th Anniversary should help you a lot.

I can also mention that I play French in rated Corr Chess games since in Winaver with b6 computers first thinks that white is 1.5 pawns better after Qg4 and after that several concrete accurate theoretical moves are inserted the computers evalutes the position as completly equal.

But I stopped to play French in over the board games since 75% of all games was in exchange variation regardles of opponents rating.

Have you ever considered replacing the Maroczy with the Kalashnikov?

1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 e5
1.e4 c5 2.Nc3 Nc6 3.Nf3/Nge2 g6 4.d4 cxd4 5.Nxd4.

I have not considered it since I like to play 2 .. g6 move order since typical club players don't enter Open Sicilian with the white pieces anyway so it will require more work than it's worth.

To my understanding a Maroczy structure/formation/set-up is any white set-up in the Open Sicilian with pawns on e4+c4, even such crap as 2 d4 cxd4 3 Qxd4 Nc6 4 Qd3 Nf6 5 c4.
But the Maroczy system means only this set-up against the Accelerated Dragon.
So both of you are right!?

After eg Be7 7.Be2 f5 play is very different from the Maroczy in the Accelerated Dragon.

I don't understand this comment. Isn't 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 e5 5. Nb5 d6 6. c4 pretty much a Maroczy structure?
