I already got my copy from Niggemann on may 15th but have not found much time to look into: too busy with other things ...
Sometimes Niggemann puts an already available article again to the new section when adding the first review. So they have done in this case. There´s now a good review by IM Dirk Schuh (in German language).
IM Schuh´s complains are not so much about the quality of analysis but (rightly) about the organisation of the material.
Pavlovic doesn´t give a bibliography. Often it´s difficult to see if a line is pure analysis or has already been played on higher levels.
In Pavlovic´s terms
-
Colle means systems with c3 but without b3 (~ Colle-Koltanowski !?)
-
Zukertort means systems with b3 (~ Colle-Zukertort !?)
Generally Pavlovic prefers
Zukertort over
Colle but that depends of course on Black´s early decisions (especially Nc6/Nbd7 and Be7/Bd6). Best is to play both structures and have some knowledge in the Quiet/Classical QID, too?!
As far as I can see, the coverage of this main part (1 d4 d5 2 Nf3 Nf6 3 e3 e6 4 Bd3) is good, interesting and useful for players 1800-2400 !?
Slav: After 3 ... Bf5 4 Bd3 Bxd3 5 Qxd3 c6 6 0-0 e6 7 Nbd2 Nbd7 8 e4 dxe4 9 Nxe4 Nxe4 10 Qxe4 Nf6 11 Qe2 Be7 12 c4 0-0 13 Rd1 it looks really drawish but Pavlovic uses 3 pages to show that White (maybe) has a little something.
3...c5: Pavlovic has three options. Either the Reversed Noteboom 4 dxc5!? e6 5 b4!? a5 6 c3 etc with "complicated but balanced" positions. Or 4 Nbd2 cxd4 5 cxd4 Nc6 and now 6 c3 or 6 Bb5!?
Benoni: After 1 d4 Nf6 2 Nf3 c5 Pavlovic mentions 3 e3 (transposing elsewhere) and has also some pages on 3 d5 (and 3... b5 4 c3)
KID: After 1 d4 Nf6 2 Nf3 g6 3 e3 Bg7 4 Be2 0-0 5 0-0 Pavlovic has some pages on 5... d6 6 b3!? and 5... c5 6 c3!?
Probably this book isn´t the final solution to all white questions and problems but I think it can be a very useful additional source if you´re inclined to work your way through the material!? Not recommended as stand alone source but with its many suggestions certainly an interesting read.
IMO maybe 3,5 - 4 stars out of 5.
