6.Qb3 Nc6 7.Qxb7 must lose.

I played the cautious 7. Be3 and then after 7. .. Na5 8. Qa4 c6, elected to grab the space with 9. c5 . Engines reckon about equal.

7. cxd5 is a try for an advantage.

1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.exd5 exd5 4.c4 Nf6 5.Nc3 Bg4 ... Unlike in the true Portuguese, black won't be able to quickly post rooks on d8 and e8.

6.Qb3 Nc6 7.Qxb7 must lose.

7.cxd5 looks okay, with the point 7...Nxd4? 8.Qa4+. White might even hold the extra pawn. After 7...Nb4 Stockfish is enamored of 8.a3 Nbxd5 9. Qxb7. Instead 8.Bb5+ looks logical, unfortunately if 8...Bd7 9.Bc4 black has 9...Bf5.

Something I faced in a recent league game.

The sequence 1. e4 e6 2. d4 d5 3. exd5 exd5 4. c4 Nf6 5. Nc3 Bg4 or possibly 1. e4 d5 2. exd5 Nf6 3. c4 e6 4. d4 exd5 5. Nc3 Bg4

It's only been played a couple of times in junior events. 6. Qb3 would seem critical, but how well does 6. .. Nc6 work as a reply?

The Scandinavian/Icelandic move order is relevant, since if I had played 1. e4 d5 2. exd5 Nf6 3. d4 Bg4 was the likely reply.
