In case you're using a smartphone a feed reader could help. On my desktop this works at least.

If I am not logged in, recenttopics does not correctly identify the name of "Post by". Instead it repeats the name of "Started by".

Hmm, recenttopics is different from recent.
  • recenttopics = the last post in X different topics
  • recent = the last X posts regardless of topic
 
The dropdown on the front page gives recent. I can see a use for recenttopics, but I prefer recent. So I am still looking for a way to get more than 10 recent posts using a URL.

That works, thanks. My mistake was different. 

I bookmarked 
http://www.chesspub.com/cgi-bin/chess/YaBB.pl?action=recent

Appending ";display=25" still gives 10, and on the mobile screen I didn't notice the "recent" vs "recenttopics".

Well, it just tells the page how many posts you want to see. For 25 try http://www.chesspub.com/cgi-bin/chess/YaBB.pl?action=recenttopics;display=25

Down on the start site you can choose that.

I don't think the ";display=10" does anything. The recent posts dropdown can show up to 25. Any idea how to show more than 10 using a URL?

If you look on the bottom left of the home page, under 'Forum Statistics', there is 'View the  most recent posts on the forum' where you can choose how many you want to see. I always start on http://www.chesspub.com/cgi-bin/chess/YaBB.pl?action=recenttopics;display=10 to see the last ten posts.

I see many forums have a "new posts" feature that lets the users see, regardless of forums, what has been posted since last visit. Is there a feature? I can't find it on the homepage.
