The critical sequence here is 1. d4 d5 2. Nc3 Nf6 3. Bf4 a6 4. e3 e6 5. g4 Bb4 6. Nge2 O-O 7. a3 Be7 8. Rge1

Around here, at high depth Stockfish starts to agree that white is perhaps not worse after all and that maybe there are other plans than Nc1 🤭.

Kaufman and Sielecki are really enthusiastic about the following line for Black against the Jobava: 1.d4 d5 2.Nc3 Nf6 3.Bf4 a6!?

Kaufman cites the following game with analysis:

Jobava,Ba (2622) - Sargsyan,Shant (2488) [D00]
PRO League KO Stage 2019 chess.com INT (2), 02.04.2019

1.d4 d5 2.Nc3 Nf6 3.Bf4 a6!? 4.e3 e6

What says Simon Williams about this line?

There's 2 chapters about this line. He gives both 5. g4!? and 5. Bd3.

What says Simon Williams about this line?

Havent looked at the material properly yet. I think in the introduction he may have said something along the lines of it being a logical approach by black in stopping Nb5 threats but whites lead in development allows him to begin pushing on the kingside almost immediately. A number of the lines he covers in the Chessable guide involve 5.g4

3 model games given before the theory chapter are

Carlsen vs Caruana,  Alekseenko, K. vs. Kokarev, Dm and Alekseenko, K vs Riazantsev, A.

I dont know which year or event these games took place.

Yes, I guess that is a valid point.

I am interested in the London after 1.d4 d5 (after 1.d4 Nf6 I like the Tromp).
Does Williams give any information about the pros and cons of the "pure" London and the London-Jobava after 1...d5?

Of course a lot of lines can merge after e.g. 1.d4 d5 2.Bf4 Nf6 3.Nc3
I believe after 1.d4 d5 2.Nc3 c5 the move 3.e4 is more dangerous than the Morris gambit 1.d4 d5 2.Bf4 c5 3.e4. The latter has a quite dubious reputation.

Are there any other lines where 1.d4 d5 2.Nc3 (followed by 3.Bf4) is advantageous compared to 1.d4 d5 2.Bf4?

I somehow think 2.Nc3 is a bit more dynamic or Tromp-like than 2.Bf4. On the other hand 2.Bf4 appears sounder to me, but maybe that's only my kind of gut feeling.  Smiley

I dont know if he says anything in the London DVD. I wouldnt have thought so.

He does briefly mention in his Jobava London DvD and Chessable products how they differ (particularly in the latter) - probably because he expects a crossover audience (and because he calls it Jobava London , not Jobava Prie).

Here his main points are i think the weakness of b2 if playing 2.Bf4 (and the threat of an early Qb6), and the relative simplicity of 2.Nc3 (it leads to a smaller number of set ups black will play against you so requires you to know less in turn).

I cant remember the specific lines he covers though in these explanations.

I think Chessable is popular amongst content creators because their royalties are something like 60%

The Jobava stuff is on his own Ginger GM dvd, from earlier in the year, and now the new video/chessable 'book' that came out a week or so ago.

I think the Chessbase videos cover the more common (Neo?) London stuff.

It's not that surprising it has come out on chessable now - he recently had his Killer Dutch material updated on put on there and is probably striking while the iron is hot.... there isnt much material out there on the Jobava system (I can only think of the London book by Romero has a chapter, as does the Move by Move Veresov book, and Jobava had an article in a chess yearbook a while back). It was only recently listed on their list of titles confirmed for publishing this year.

I think the royalties are much higher for Chessable than traditional chess publishers pay and he is a popular author/presenter .

I see that on the DVD after 1...Nf6 2. Bf4 c5 he indeed doesn't go with what the latest d-Pawn Specials update calls "the even more unbalancing 3. d5" (which can transpose to the Vaganian Gambit in the Trompowsky, or not) nor 3. e3 but rather 3. dc (which according to the same update "has lost a fair degree of popularity").

I think he said somewhere,, maybe the last DVD on the london that he did not like playing d5 and black does not play the vangardian. I heard that on chess.com there was a trump video and the author of it said the same. I could be wrong.

Does he give any jobrava stuff in chess base or is it pretty much the london? Just asking cause his last DVD had a chapter on it. Oh I was really surprised to see this dvd with the chessable course just out too.

On chessable is a free course from williams about d4-Nc3-Bf4. Maybe you can get some ideas from this.
