I've found that LC0 and Fat Fritz run much better through chessbase using the -rtx optimized versions that chessbase configures automatically than my manually set up LC0.  Obviously I did something wrong when optimizing manually -

Use the cudnn-fp16 backend.

Thanks - yes that sped things up for me with LC0 in my manual install

I've found that LC0 and Fat Fritz run much better through chessbase using the -rtx optimized versions that chessbase configures automatically than my manually set up LC0.  Obviously I did something wrong when optimizing manually - but it is about a 3X improvement in kN/S.  So I am quite pleased with that feature of Fritz 17.

I should note I have an RTX 2080

This ChessBase article is highly relevant. There is a promise of a followup article discussing complete systems.

For lc0 the story is pretty much:

CPU / no GPU - don't bother, use the latest Stockfish dev build
GTX 9x0 / 10x0 - works, especially if it's a high end card it will get close to Stockfish
GTX 16xx - works, reasonably fast, affordable cards
RTX 20x0 - works, very very fast, and quite expensive

There seems to be some discussion about Fritz 17 and the neural network, and what model of gpu is the minimum to get good results. Anyone up to speed on this issue?
