Years ago I played that line with 9.Bg5, which I don't think is that good.  I'll have to look into 9.Kf2 more closely now, thanks!

9.Kf2 was given a ! by Vigorito (I can't find the source).

Must have been on chesspublishing probably when Shankland lost against it (the first time 2016). The move was a novelty in 2011 correspondence game between amateur's thus he was probably unaware until 2016 when GMs started playing it after it ripped through the correspondence world. It wouldn't have existed when he published his book on the slav/semislav.

This line made me give up the Slav

Really??

Yes, I have played 29 high level correspondence games and an additional 75 otb games with the slav. My only loss is in this line. I don't think the line can be repair so the entire opening was abandoned.

And 6...Nbd7 is also not good enough for correspondence chess?

The line that killed the Slav

Today we saw the line that killed the Slav in an important Candidate's game between Ding Liren (0/2) against Fabiano Caruana (1.5/2) in round 3 that went 1-0.

The famous line 1. d4 d5 2. c4 c6 (here Ding said he thought he should just play cxd5 and make a draw obviously not feeling good about 0/2 but instead he remarked he went for the most topical line... the question remains why did Fabi?) 3. Nf3 Nf6 4. Nc3 dxc4 5. a5 Bf5 6. Ne5 e6 7. f3 Bb4 8. Nxc4 0-0 9. Kf2 and here white is dominating a full 70% win ratio out my 95 high level correspondence games. This line made me give up the Slav which has been a pet favorite opening of mine for over a decade.

Yet Fabi didn't venture into this blighted territory... he came with what to my database at least... appears to be a novelty... 9... e5N though to my eyes this move looks vomit worthy. Is there anyway to improve Fabi's play here? Can the Slav be restored? I think maybe 12... Be4 is better than 12... Bb3 but surely white is still a major plus.
