Hans Ree wrote a nice chronicle in New in Chees #8 2012
explaining the misspelling of the name, and that in his database of  games the last maybe an error because it was played in 1991 when planinc had already been in a mental hospital for many years before

I have 561 games of Albin "Planinec" in ChessBase Megabase 2017.  The earliest game is from 1962 and there are no games for Albin "Planinc," so I assume these have all been harmonized under "Planinec."

Not sure if this will work, but if it does then there is a nice bonus annotated game I did!

I found the following number of Planinc (Planinec) games online:
536 - www.chessgames.com
533 - billwall.phpwebhosting.com
525 - www.365chess.com
511 - old.chesstempo.com
465 - chess-db.com

Of course Planinc played far more than 536 games in his life.

I did not find any Slovenian or Yugoslavian databases. I think using the Roman alphabet limited my returns from those sources. In Lars Balzer's collection there are some files that reference a source YUBASE by Crnic, but I couldn't find that using Duck Duck Go. I think you already have most of the games, and unless you are willing to do John Donaldson-depth research, are unlikely to find many more. This link might be useful, it's in Croatian but about chess so not totally incomprehensible: https://sah.hr/forum/index.php?topic=1185.0

I use ChessBase 13, Chess Assistant 18, (version 20 on the way!) and a dvd compilation of internet database games I bought years ago (not sure who sells it).

I was able to pull up 2,262 games obviously with many, many doubles.

the name Planinc, only got me 555 games, and adding the spelling Planinec, brought it to 2,262, which may help in your case as well.

Hope all you all are doing well,

Thanks, Allan

Yes maybe after I go through the 200 or so victories that I have, I will pay for Chessbase and see how many more I can find.  Thanks for your interest and the wishes of wellness, same to yourself and your loved one

I recall reading somewhere that he intentionally changed his own name, I think when he was institutionalized.  Along with the other person who responded, I do agree that maybe searching for Planinec could help, but as you note, many could be duplicates, which however, I think are easy to sift out

I appreciate the interest.  Right now I have a PGN without 200 Planinc victories from chessgames.com, gleaned from a PGN of slightly more than 500 total games.  I paid for a premium chessgames membership to get access to bulk PGN downloads so I don't think I should provide that.  Just maybe any pointers to where I might even begin to research on my own, I realize if I find PGN files with more of his games, that I will be doing a lot of de-duplicating.  BTW I have investigated more possibilities online without success Sad

I don't mind doing research of this type, but I wouldn't touch it unless you first list out the "standard PGNs" and where you found them. Otherwise invariably I would report back that I found something, thinking it was non-standard, and you would reply you already have it. Thus annoying us both.

Hi I'm looking for a PGN file that might contains some of Planinc's games from Slovenian chess championships and other such events that just aren't in the standard PGNs I can find about him.  Any guidance will be much appreciated.  Hope everybody is doing well.
