Laramonet, if you're considering the Alatortsev because you don't like the standard exchange variation, you could also consider Kornev's book Play 1.d4 d5 2.c4 e6!, which recommends 3.Nc3 Nf6 4.cxd5 Nxd5.

Colovic did a previous trilogy on the QGD on chessable and covers the differences here: https://www.alexcolovic.com/2021/03/differences-between-the-qgd-repertoires/

You can also look at the "short and sweet" version of the LTR course for more details.  But anyway he features:

1.d4 d5 2.c4 e6 3.Nc3 Be7 4.cxd5 exd5 5.Bf4 c6 6.e3 Bf5 7.g4 Be6 8.h4 Bxh4!? which is a more concrete way to play and avoids those ...Nh6 lines you mention.

1.d4 d5 2.c4 e6 3.Nc3 Be7 4.cxd5 exd5 5.Bf4 c6 6.Qc2 Nf6 7.e3 Nh5 8.Be5 Nd7 9.Be2 Nxe5 10.dxe5 g6 11.Bxh5 gxh5 12.0-0-0 f6

Marin covers:

5.Bf4 Nf6 6.e3 Bf5!? 7.Qb3 Nc6 which I concluded was quite good when trying to prepare it for white.

5.Bf4 Nf6 6.Qc2 isn't really a theoretical line as far as I know and I think Marin covers 6...c5!? in response.

I have Colovic's LTR chessable course and have "learned" the Exchange lines but I don't think I like them particularly - they are very concrete and in particular that 6.Qc2 line features castling kingside with only the h7 pawn for company. I'm sure the lines work, but if I have to learn sharp lines I'd play the Grunfeld Smiley

I like Colovic's choices pretty much everywhere else though.

Thanks Straggler, I knew of the item but had missed that Marin recommends the Alatortsev. I notice he uses 5.Bf4 Nf6. I've checked the promotion video on Colovic's Chessable course and you cannot tell whether he recommends the same, or goes for 5.Bf4 c6. The second way I find attractive, while not having played it yet. The slightly strange pawn structures are interesting, with ideas like Nh6, willingly allowing Bh6, gh ! I'm not sure why Nf6 is preferred but will get on and play some of the lines to hopefully find out !  Smiley

Marin has a two-part database in which he recommends this move order.

Is there a good resource on the Alatortsev more recent than the book by Janjgava ? I've played 3..., Nf6 as well but find most positions I get there a little passive, the Alatortsev seems more interesting. I noticed that Colovic recommends 3..., Be7 in his LTR on the QGD on Chessable, but are there any others ?
