4.e4 Nxg4 5.f4 Nec6! (Martin's exclam) then basically recommending 6.Be3 Bb4+ 7.Nc3 Qh4+ 8.g3 Bxc3+ 9.bxc3 Qe7 (two games), along with white deviations. Nine numbered games from 2002, 1990, 1933, 1998, 1977, 1993, 2020 (internet blitz), 1966, 1962. In the notes to those I see four more game references from 2011, 1993 (blitz), 2017, 2011.

I'm not going to offer any opinion about Martin's book. I'm certainly no expert on the Budapest. A few years back I was considering taking it up, then I played only a few practice games, and reconsidered.

Does anyone know what he recommends if white plays the alekhine variation (after knight g4, e4 for white)?

Oh of anyone has the book, what did you think of it?

Thanks.

They‘ve changed the title from „... Defence“ to „Play the Budapest Gambit“ and therefore also the link:

I think the Fajarowicz is generally acknowledged as at least += but the Budapest is a bit less clear (although I figure white is at least more comfortable).

Biggest "news" on the Budapest could be this line: https://twitter.com/gmmds/status/1248592866106015744?lang=en

Play the Budapest Defence
by IM Andrew Martin
Everyman ; 384 pages ; £20/$30 ; May 2021

There‘s a pdf download (23p.) with ToC, preface and several pages of the Maroczy line 3...Ng4 4.Nf3 Lc5 5.e3 Nc6

Obviously it deals with both the Budapest and the Fajarowicz and gives black repertoire in both.
Certainly interesting but I thought that White has a safe += in some variations?! Or even more?
